What the flying **** are you going on about?

Are you conflating striving for social economic mobility with trying to be white adjacent?

This stupid assertion that Asians are trying to be white adjacent just isn’t born out by facts. We are neither blind nor stupid.

1. We know we don’t look white, unlike the Italians, Irish, and yes, more currently, many Hispanics, and we will never be white.
2. By and large we are proud of our heritage, partly due to relatively recent immigration and partly due to “perpetual outsider” treatment
3. F you and you left wing morons (to be fair, plenty of right wing morons too) that try to box us in
4. Actual surveys say most of us don’t view ourselves as white and others don’t view us as “honorary” whites, especially once you dig into underlying attitudes

This is my last derail. I should have known better than to wade into this thread with a bottle of wine in my system.

Sweeping generalizations are what being anti-racist is all about.

How about judging people by the values they hold?

I don't understand why you're trying to make this thread take a racist turn, especially when you suggest that you're anti-racism.

Asian Lives Matter was in direct response to a sharp uptick in hate crimes during the failed response to coronavirus and a shift in strategy by people like Trump to calling it the China virus in order to minimize his failures and pass the blame on to a group unpopular with his base.

I don't know what PW is trying to accomplish, but we aren't going to continue in this direction.

There was no major uptick lol that was the media playing Asians. It was a racist way to try and oppress black people. I’m glad that movement stopped. Black are the number one victims of racial prejudice followed by native Americans and Jewish people. Then come Asians.

Lol look at this data. Hardly statistically relevant.

Hate crime is hard to measure because statutes vary from state to state and the data depends on how inclined local authorities are to characterize crimes as motivated by bias.

All that said, I'm not sure why PW thinks that chart supports his position.

FBI stats don't support the position either. 78% increase in hate crimes against Asians in 2020 and 125% increase in 2021.

Look at the raw data. Saying oh there were 60 more attacks in NYC than last year so attacks have gone up by 25% nationwide

That’s a damn lie.

Before we do anything else, aren’t you concerned to see what the change in hate crime were for other races? We do want to see if the change is real and if everyone experienced it or if it was only the Asians being targeted

The FBI database shows 334 incidents in 2020 and 753 incidents in 2021.

Do you think that’s statistically significant in a population of 380 million?

The idea of stop Asian hate is that Asians are being disproportionately targeted for hate crimes and , at least in San Francisco in the tenderloin , they were yelling at black people

Not sure I get your point. Some Asian people at rallies expressed racism towards black people so the documented rise in hate crimes against Asians at that time can be discounted?

I see something else in this data.

It's the Leftist wing of the Liberals that cares so much about being anti-racist, yet the cities with the most racist attacks are also the most Leftist in the country. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Also, the supposedly racist states of Texas and Florida don't seem to have much of a problem.

Just sayin.

It’s almost like the more people you have in a city , the more attacks you will have.

Do you think that factually identical assaults have exactly the same chance of being treated and reported as a hate crime, regardless of whether the assaults occur in San Francisco, Portland, Phoenix, Fort Worth, the Florida panhandle, or rural west Texas?

I'm aware of the caste system in India. I've been there and was a bit surprised when people (they would, necessarily, be Hindus) kept asking me my caste, because they can't 'place' someone otherwise. It turned out that saying 'Christian' was satisfactory. (I think, to Hindus, it means 'Not as good as Brahmin but not positively "low".')
