Nothing wrong with that in principle. The problem is people aren't good at wearing both hats. So we need political factions representing or championing what they're best at or naturally inclined/orientated towards, i.e., conservatives and liberals to somewhat harmonize in our overall political psyche. In other words, the solution is more of a balancing act between opposing views than obliterating the opposition.
