It is my belief that the decline in sexual interactions is very real and is a troubling forward indicator for society at large that people are engaging less and less in the types of physical interaction that lead to the types of relationship where sex would become a natural offshoot and instead becoming more and more anti-social.
I believe this anti social slant plays right in to the hands of Facebook and other Social Media companies who know how to target and exploit this growing cohort with engagement that fills the absence of person to person socialization with a goal to monetize these people with little regard for their well being short or long term.
I think this has been exasperated by Apps like Tinder and Bumble which have created, as i have said in the past, an All you Can Eat type buffet for the top ~30% of male profiles with any willing female partner while leaving the remaining 70% of males completely ignored. Meanwhile near 100% of women are getting easier access to sex if they desire it.
I think that as women gain more and more financial independence (a great thing) many more are opting out of relationships and sex that they do not think ideal and are far less compromising in that regard.
Lastly I think this could lead to dystopian type outcomes, especially as the type of online Worlds (Metaverse) are built out and people can get realistic feeling interactions thru avatars and i think FaceBooks big data is telling them exactly that. That people are retreating into ever more anti-social bubbles and the best way to reach them and engage with them is to draw them deep into the metaverse and provide for their needs there.
A scary thing for society, imo, that could destroy much of the social fabric over time exasperating these divisions and the real world polarization and conflicts.

More Faith, Less Sex: Why Are So Many Unmarried Young Adults Not Having Sex?
The pandemic disrupted American life in many ways, but one trend remained the same: rising sexlessness. A growing share of younger Americans are living without sex. The new 2021 General Social Survey can be used to track these trends over time. As Figure 1 below shows, since 2010, there has been a sharp rise in the share of males and females ages 18 to 35 who report not having sex in the prior year. This trend, which has been described in detail in prior IFS reports, continued in 2021....
