Yes, they won't ever admit it, but people have, mostly on really small points. Most of the folks here have actually become more extreme/radical. I haven't really changed any of my core positions, but it does allow me to get a better understanding of where the other side is coming from. With that said, what most people argue are economics shaped as other things.

That's correct but it may be because real life politics has become a lot more extreme.

It is a sad state of affairs indeed that a person who is stupid enough to create a nick that initialises to "IHIV" is one of the smarter representatives of his kind.

The top writer for Fox News host Tucker Carlson has for years been using a pseudonym to post bigoted remarks on an online forum that is a hotbed for racist, sexist, and other offensive content, CNN Business learned this week.
I would have been more shocked if none of Carlson's writers had written bigoted remarks

So essentially the same as he has been doing for a show that is a hotbed for racist, sexist, and other offensive content.

Got any examples in mind of extreme radicalization that are new or unique to today?

I have first hand experience with Catholic Charities. They do some serious outreach. They probably do more for the homeless than any other institution in the country, including the government.

What is the point of people boycotting companies like Goya because the CEO supports Trump? It seems kind of naive - do they think all CEOs of the other products they buy are all out in BLM rallies? If they did a study, they would probably be boycotting 80% of stuff they buy. Just weird, but at least the Goya Black Beans should be easier to get now.

It's a way of exerting power and control. If you speak up in favor of the evil opposition, the righteous group will do everything in its power to crush you. And this runs both ways in politics; it's not just a "left over right" or "right over left" phenomenon.

80% of companies may very well run contrary to BLM's creed, but now they know to keep their mouths shut and not give a shred of praise to The Bad Orange Man.

I'm not sure if his road trip included the Caribbean.

Exploratory Notes on the Origins of New Fascisms

ABSTRACT:

This essay interrogates whether existent analytical tools remain adequate to identify and assess what is perceived as the revival of fascistic tendencies today, ultimately arguing that they are not. Fascism cannot be expected to assume the same forms it did a century ago. Class structures, resource distribution schemes, communication potentials, and modes of belonging and exclusion have undergone significant changes. To determine which of the traits of the contemporary power paradigm would foreground new fascistic tendencies, this essay first revisits some of the most crucial insights in Hannah Arendt's study of the origins of totalitarianism. Arendt's perspective is highly valuable in moving the discussion of fascism beyond the delineation of specific historical events toward a theory of fascist power. The point is to distill from Arendt's insights into the connections among imperialism, fascism, and totalitarianism a number of techniques of government that would enable us to repeat the gesture today, but this time within the biopolitics-security-neoliberalism nexus. The power paradigm that this essay (re)constructs is meant to contribute to identifying fascistic and totalitarian trends irrespective of ideological and historiographic differences.

---

If fascism designates those sociopolitical formations that tend toward disrupting references and transgressing external limits while constantly fabricating internal boundaries by setting bodies up for liquidation, then this is a fascist moment.

No shame in asking for a 5th grade translation of the adult writing.

Stuff like that is meaningless, like in the most literal sense. It means whatever the author wants it to mean, but they never really elucidate.

With that movie it's [ˌkeɹɪˈbićn]
In basically all other contexts it's [ˈkeɹɪˌbićn]
