Looks like the Prime Minister is going to resign and the entire government disbanded.

Will be interesting to see how a middle eastern country in economic shambles can re-create its government and country.

Also will be interesting to see which foreign countries will swoop in to try and take advantage.

Discuss.

I suspect not many will try and take advantage apart from the ones already on site. Lebanon is a hot mess and has been for 5 decades. Which is sad, it is a beautiful country, rich culture and wonderful people.

France will probably step up a fair bit due to the history between the countries.

For good or bad it seems inevitable that like most of the rest of the formerly diverse Middle East, non Muslims minorities will be physically pushed out of Lebanon and the more wealthy Middle Eastern states and Palestinian "protestors" will cynically use Lebanon as a geopolitical pawn piece, and the people themselves will be the worser for it.

I doubt France will be able to exert any meaningful influence or bring stability, as the Middle Eastern powers will fight them tooth and nail in the UN to keep Lebanon as their political pawn.

Given that non-Muslims make up about half of Lebanon's population this is unlikely, if not impossible.

I don't think France plans to "bring stability". And even if they wanted to try, France is one of the worst countries in the world at bringing stability anywhere. There are however strong cultural ties between the countries, so I suspect France will spearhead a European relief effort.

So all the usual suspects will begin "negotiating" behind closed doors yet again and cutting deals to get their next leader into power.

I actually don't think anything positive will come out of this as long as the religious factions are still entrenched.
