Cognitive Dissonance?

From the article: “However, sexual morality has always been at the forefront of the values that conservatives and evangelicals champion.”
If "sexual morality" is at the forefront of the values conservatives and evangelicals champion, how do conservatives and evangelicals square their unwavering support for Donald Trump with their [professed] beliefs? The only thing I can figure is that they're suffering from a condition known as cognitive dissonance.
I remember (as a young lad) being forced to attend a Baptist church. The preacher was a real "fire and brimstone" type who [literally] worked himself into a frenzy during each service. In nearly every one of his sermons he railed against "the sins of the flesh" and how those who indulged in such depravities would burn forever in a lake of fire. Around age 13 I (accidently) discovered one of those "sins of the flesh" - masturbation.
For years I suffered terrible stress as I weighed the fear of burning in hell versus my [occasional] desire to get my rocks off. Eventually a much older (married) church lady showed me what the real sins of the flesh entailed. I quickly lost my fear of burning in hell.
