Kelhus may well have not known this. I didn't.
For the most part Jews wanted to leave other ME countries after Israel formed (Iran being the biggest exception) and Israel definitely wanted the Jewish immigration.
And I think that's all fine, and even noble, as long as the rights of other people aren't trampled.
