Well, except in the real world this is more or less what happened in EVERY Western country. So there is absolutely no reason to assume that the US would have been the one country to uncover the plot and stop the pandemic.

The truth is everyone ignored whatever signs there were because of strong incentive structures to keep the machine going. Neoliberal globalism is extremely good at maximizing short term economic gain when times are good, but it is very poor at responding to crisis or taking any sort of long term view.

We all just assumed that neoliberal progress was going to be a smooth ride to a new world utopia. But there are benefits and weaknesses to any system. And a giant weakness in our system has been exposed and laid bare.

The US did the exact same thing.

I guess we were never sure how far Trump supporters would really go but you are right. They are willing to die to try and defend his gibberish nonsense.

Every western country had a pandemic research team specializing in coronaviruses on the ground in Wuhan that they collectively axed two months before the breakout?

Well, better just throw in the word "neoliberal" in there so that you can blame left wingers too.

It is absolutely mind-boggling. I've spent many hours trying to figure out how it is possible for so many people to think that this absolutely horrible human being is smarter and more important than every other person on the planet. I just don't get it.

I don't know who "we" is in this case because no one I know of thought that, other than you apparently.

I think it was pretty well known that electing a moron like Trump as POTUS is a giant weakness.

Neoliberals aren't left wingers.
Kelhus knows that too.

There seem to be plenty of people willing to die on the CCP hill. I mean we can't blame them. It's racist. They might be stigmatized.

Leftism is literally killing the world.

Whole life I've never quite been able to imagine how things like Hitler could possibly happen. No matter how many books or movies, it always felt like something was missing. Just could not come to fully accept that many people buying in. Not any more.

Pretty much this. At least you could make the excuse that people of 100 years ago were brainwashed by state run propaganda, and had no access to contrary information. Not so today; people have access to the sum total of the accumulated body of all human knowledge at their fingertips, and they still choose to believe demonstrable horseshit instead. Kinda doesn't give one much hope for the future of the human race.

No doubt a lot of things amaze you - doesn't seem like a particularly high bar to clear.

The one thing that bugs me is when CNN and MSNBC post clips from Jan & early Feb of Trumps rambling how its nothing yet back than Dr Fucci was saying it was nothing to worry about. Though on Feb 13 Richard Burr sold his stock one day after the briefing. You would have to say that is the point were any Democrat or Republican still said go out and enjoy things or its a hoax or anything like that is irresponsible and be accountable. Which would cover a lot of politicians. Now Trump after that has been horrible

I think those media sources lose credibility. Even these press briefings. One day after Kushner says "its the federal Reserve and not the states" and than changes the website to match what he said why are the press not pounding Trump on that?

I think it's the difference between generalised compassion and compassion only as soon as it affects you. Like hating gays until your kid turns out to be gay.

Then of course you have the conservatives who'd disown their kid if he/she turned out to be gay. Lot of them too.

Let's be honest here, what the US did worse if we are talking about straight morality. It's one thing, and a very bad thing, to withhold information at the onset for three weeks, but it's entirely different to know what's happening and let it go on for two months while not just doing nothing, but ensuring the people you lead that everything is ok while they keep infecting one-another.

Oh yes, I remember the time right wingers were outraged after Trump spoke of the great love between him and "literal Hitler committing mass genocide" Kim Jong-Un. Wait, no, I don't.

In America's defense, President Trump wouldn't exist if it weren't for Fox News. They have, quite slowly imo, become one of the most dangerous threats national security. I think there are a lot of good people who get the majority if not all of their news from that station, and if you're one of them you're not going to think he's doing a bad job overall.

I imagine he probably hates his guts. He's responsible for ruining Trump's great economy after all.

Trump has to be diplomatic in public though.
