I actually don't know why NYC spends so much on education. Most cities seem to spend more or less nothing, as almost all the money for education comes from the fed and state.

Education budget(~1.1mil students) 34B

Maybe I'm reading the numbers wrong but it looks like the cops are doing pretty pretty good
I think the technical term is living high on the hog

Most of em do look like they're eating pretty well

Well, the cities populace and local government seems to agree with you and are taking this opportunity to knock them down a few pegs. I guess we will find out soon enough how well that goes.
