Being fervently anti-religion is cool on the internet, but not a great way to make friends in the real world. There are far more of us than there are of you.
Well said.

It's possible to understand that over 10 percent of the children in school in this country are being taught out dated cultural and moral principals without being fervently anti-religion. Freedom of association and all that .....

I just think it's funny that you accuse everyone outside your very small, narrow and unenlightened bubble to be living in a bubble.

Fwiw there is a difference being anti religion and wanting religion to be out of public policies …..

Many fundamentalist do not make that distinction .

This is a long-running bit that Ins0 does. In his world, no one on 2p2 knows anything about living in a large city.

Untrue, but I'd bet money that most of the people arguing with me in those threads have never lived more than 2000ft away from a cul de sac growing up.

Most of the true degens steer clear of the politics subforum.

It's just odd that you think you know something that the average 2p2 poster doesn't because, honestly I don't see it.

Anyway, give The Wall a listen. Waters was not only aware of the fact that he isolated himself but had some insight as to way. (spoiler : It wasn't the blacks).

i doubt anything in the top 25 or so.

eta- i guess it all comes down to what's "large".. for me personally i would say >700k city, >2mil(maybe 2.5mil) metro.. i consider the city i live in "small" and it's around 1 mil metro.

here there's some genuine literary works but most of those are a bit more on the nose with what they're pushing forward so if the community wants to put in efforts preventing a library from holding a copy of "my dad is gay" which they were unlikely to be holding anyway then fine

it's not like this is restricting critical info they couldn't gain access to online or just buying the book if need be

What danger do you think these books pose to children, lagtight?

Perversions of various sorts are promoted, or at least "winked at", in some of those books.

That's about as precise as I can get without running afoul of the mods.

I see it like this. If there were books that promoted something deemed negative that might be able to incentivize children to engage in that behavior there might be a case for restricting it. No book is going to turn someone gay or trans. A child or their parent(s) are either gay or not, they can't be incentivized towards homosexuality. Restricting books on the subject doesn't stop it from happening.

laggy I honestly do not know this answer and you clearly do. What are examples of the 'filth' you know of in some of those books?

I am legit curious and Florida is offering no transparency on the 'content that makes it bannable' so I am asking you as someone in the know??

Just seeing this so I will reply in case you think it prevents you replying to me.

No mod would cite you afoul for quoting the passages of banned book.

Any quoted will either trigger one of the filters that will blur it out or it is fine to post.

I am not asking you for your opinion, just the 'quotes'

I'd probably get the banhammer just for citing the title of the filthy book. You can probably make an educated guess why that is.

sounds like someone doesn't actually know of anything wrong and is just assuming they were banned for good reason and is unwilling to make that concession

The children would be lucky if only hour 3 and 4 of every day is bible study time. Try spending 15 minutes out of an already reduced to make time for bible study 45 minute math class to write prayer requests up on the board.

History class taught us that the earth is 6,000 years old and that fossils exist because of Noah and his ark. I almost failed Biology because I failed the final essay I had to write on why evolution is not true - we weren't allowed to disagree with the prompt. At least Astronomy taught me about how god perfectly placed all the heavenly bodies of the sky.

If you think religious schools just have chapel once a week and the rest is high quality education then I've got a voucher to sell you.

Yikes! I hardly know where to start with this. I guess a good place would be the kids who have no Internet access at home, and certainly can't afford to be buying these books. Or the message this sends to LGBTQ+ kids.

As soon as government starts meddling in education for political reasons, you're going down the wrong path. Every. ****ing. Time. It seems to happen frequently in the US, and even more so recently.
