Prayer IS allowed in public schools. A student can pray by themselves, or in a group. They cannot create a general disturbance or compel any other student to participate, but yeah, your claim is given 4 Pinocchios.
Nobody who is technically working for the state (including teachers and staff in public school) is allowed to lead any kind of prayer or religious service. THERE is the violation of the separation of church and state.
I'm looking at like 4 different sources, from across the spectrum, all telling me the same thing.
I attended a public high school from '00 to '04, and there was soooo much religion, religious t-shirts, everyone wearing the ash on their foreheads, etc. etc., AND my school allowed the military to come in and recruit us to directly participate in our horrendous war in Iraq. My history teacher loved to tell us about the various ways by which Islam is an evil religion. It's funny, I always hear about all the secret Marxists coming into schools to brainwash our children against the flag and our troops and our American Values, and I had the exact opposite experience...
Edit: I forgot, my public school allowed youth-pastor type religious kooks, acting as representatives of whatever church they came from, to come in and openly "give counsel" to students during lunch.
