thats quite a good self view to have as you look down on the less fortunate. congrats on your inflated self image, its desirable.

libertarians seem to think that all the functions/benefits of government that allow(ed) them to make their money don't exist when they decide they don't want to pay taxes anymore.. not to mention the hundred plus years of oppression that made it possible for them to be in the position they are in.

good for you that you started on 3rd base, but you sure as **** didn't hit a triple to get there.

I don't anticipate responding to further troll posts by anyone on this thread, but I will leave a full disclaimer that I come from a middle class family (would've been lower middle class if my parents weren't so skilled at budgeting at saving), and am currently a college student in the lowest income bracket, grinding out 1/2 live and doing research for my university to avoid going into debt because of college. With that being said this notion that everyone that supports libertarian policies is a greedy piece of **** that showers in money and looks down upon people of low income levels should not be taken seriously by anyone, and should be treated with appropriate good humored ridicule.

With that being said, I welcome and look forward to any discussion relating to OP .

was that supposed to prove that you weren't privileged like every other libertarian bro including your hero Rep that totally isn't selfish in their view that they shouldn't have to pay taxes to help anyone but themselves?

because it didnt.

hopefully he will get silly libertarians to vote for him in the next election bringing down the GOP's chances in that district. like i said, his main positive contribution to society

The worst part of libertarianism are the views towards monetary policy.

"We need to go back to a gold standard. Hyperinflation is inevitable."

"But that would completely crash the economy and cause mass suffering and we have done fine without a gold standard for the last 100 years and there is no sign of abnormal inflation or hyperinflation.

"Suffering is good, that means you are getting better like when you take antibiotics. Also, I have been predicting hyperinflation for 50 years and it is 100% happening this year. Just trust me. By the way, did you know that I sell survival kits? Only $999.99 right now, on sale."

I was thinking 1933.

For most practical purposes it was 1933, but technically it was 1971.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Roosevelt basically stopped private trading in gold, but until Nixon the exchange rate of dollars to gold was set by the government. Isn't it fair to say that the rate being set by the government is the "gold standard"?

I think that right. I'm not expert on this but I think when FDR stopped exchanging gold for cash that allowed him to basically print more money to borrow, which the hard core libertarians / gold bugs would consider going off the gold standard. But there was still an official exchange rate going into the 70's. So technically we were still on the gold standard but in practice they had workarounds that enabled borrowing by the government.
