There was a show here while back called The Real Hustle, where the presenters, who were real-life ex-scammers and con-men, went around scamming members of the public, then explaining how the scam worked (they returned the money afterwards). I think it was probably mostly staged, but a touch that I liked was that one of the guys would usually introduce himself to the victim as "Rob Marks".

Why'd he use that name?

Quite. Not only that, but the outcry about it from the audience was quite hilarious. I mean, these guys literally told you they were scammers, and you liked it when they showed you how to scam other people... and now you're upset because you realised that you were the mark.

Speaks volumes as to human nature. I could literally walk up to maybe 75%+ of people I've ever met in a pub and say "hello, I am a scam artist, help me scam that guy over there and there's a £100 in it for you", and they'd play along, not realising they're the mark.

I think the lesson here is "when people tell you who they are, believe them".

I did not know the word "agita". I thought you made it up but I looked it up and it's real for sure. Not a wasted day after all, down a couple of k on the poker, but learnt something new!

This might be the first time I've learnt a new word from reading these fora, erm, forums. Although, having said that, I imagine either well named or OrP said something over the years that I had to look up. Regardless, you're in good company.

Edit: I also feel rather agitated (see what I did there?) that it is not a plural of "agitum", at least according to dictionary.com.

Edit2: Actually, in this very thread, OrP used the word "defeasible", the meaning of which I could infer both from etymology and context, but I had not heard it before so I looked it up for good measure.

right. capitalism will take over govt and siphon resources. its already doing so in the UK where the NHS will soon be dismantled. post WW2 the capitalists had to make concessions due to the fear countries would go fully Soviet style Commie. without that counterbalance there has been the continuous systematic destruction of any public services in all countries. capitalism is really expensive.
