Oh lookie, a poster banned for being obnoxious takes the indignant routine.

Gut/brain connection doesn't mean your gut controls your brain and places you into a trance, uncontrollably heading toward the fridge to pound 1200 calories of Ben & Jerry's until you look at the bottom of the container, snap out of it and howl at your reflection in the clean spoon looking back at you, "What have I done?? Does anyone have a spare finger or two they can lend me?"

I've generally been quite disciplined about food, save a few short periods in my life. My uncle (US Colonel retired) drove in to us, that you should not eat anything after your dinner in the evening, and as a family that meal should be as close to 5pm as makes sense.

So in a way he was pushing a small form of intermittent fast.

In the last decade+, living on my own, I have scaled that back and back. My view being if I am disciplined at home (~80% of my consumption) I can eat whatever I want at whatever time I want when out.

Then the last 2 years+ during covid, with little else to do, activity wise, I began to focus more on fitness and diet. It felt natural to move my dinner up to 4pm and no food after that save some popcorn with Olive Oil and cayenne pepper. Then I moved it to 2pm for my last meal. I am up at 5am and my habit is to have coffee and breakfast as soon as I get up so my eating window was 5am-2pm and that is what it remained.

Recently I had been reading and watching videos about the health benefits of driving your body into Autophagy.

Fasting or intermittent fasting ('IF') was not something I ever planned to do. Any 'IF' i did was simply an attempt to be more disciplined in calorie intake.

But over the last 3 months, for my first time, I set clear goals on IF, again with the goal of promoting Autophagy and not for diet considerations.

So here is the plan: (again when out socially none of this applies)

Stage 1:

- 3 months of strict IF schedule of 20:4 schedule, meaning I only eat food in a 4 hour window
- Eating window is from 10am -2pm (breaking my breakfast habit was challenging but easier than I thought. I had about 3 days hunger pangs but that was it)
- No food whatsoever outside that window, but i can have Bullet Proof Coffee when I wake up which really does take the edge off any hunger due to its high fat content

Stage 2:

- another 2 months where I go add going Keto. My main goal of going Keto is to add a period of no carbs, especially sugars to my fast. Once upon a time I had no sweet tooth whatsoever by my marriage changed that due to my wife loving sweets and always having abundance in the house. I have continued the habit of always having something around and desiring something after my dinner. I want to end that craving. So while Ketosis is not a goal I am chasing, ...why not?

Stage 3 :

- return to a more normal (for me) eating schedule of a 16:8 IF, where I will have an 8h eating window (6am-2pm) which is now a natural window for me to eat anyway.

And as mentioned if I am out socially or have anyone over, or am traveling, I do not follow this at all. That ~20% of time I can splurge or eat whatever i want.

I actually posted hoping for some constructive feedback as this area is relatively knew to me.

I actually started to write 'LoL your views would be appreciated if you can avoid the snotty and condescension' as i do think you are knowledgeable. But i rightly concluded that you are the worst person for anyone in life to ever seek information from as your very nature will never allow you to be other than what you are.

That's how my wife approaches me when she wants my opinion on something.

So, to gain insight into my wife, did you change your mind on that because:

(a) you felt it would be a douchey way of soliciting an opinion but you can't help yourself from phrasing it any other way?

(b) you felt it would elicit a douchey (more?) response but you can't help yourself from phrasing it any other way?

In either case, I gave my opinion, which is to check out Thomas DeLauer if you're into keto and IF. I think out of all the quacks, he's probably one of the better ones - just don't spend $3000 on his program or buy any of the crap that he shills in his videos.

Yeah, but my wife will never ask me if such and such clothing makes her ass look big. She will FaceTime my daughter for that.

N ah I just have seen enough of how you approach this topic to know you.

You clearly feel you are diet expert and you clearly have disdain for those who opine, or even seek guidance in this area who you think do not know what you know. You see this as an opportunity to flex your knowledge and to show what you think is the knowledge gap between you and others and to that end you think you need to try and belittle and mock as if it is disdainful that they dare to comment in this area.

In some ways I think you are of use in this discussion but there would never be a case where you are of use due to that need to belittle first.

But anyway, you be you boo. I knew you would be.

She's old school - prefers small and firm. I used the adjective "big" because the actual word "fat" that she used is frowned upon itt, it seems. I answered "kinda" like 18 years ago and haven't been asked ever since, but hey, I had her standards in mind when I answered (which got me nowhere either).

She knows that if she asks anything, she'll get an honest answer. There are pros and cons to that.

I never claimed to be a diet expert; if this is the impression that you've formed, well, that's on you dog. That said, I am an expert on which diet works best for me and my situation, but I do not push it on others.

Sorry that when someone brings in bro science and I refute it that this is seen as belittling someone. I guess I'm just not woke enough to be able to soften the language by using 2000 words for something that can be said in a sentence or two.

That said, I think it's rare that I call someone stupid, dumb, ******ed, etc., yet this seems to be a common strategy of yours. I'll have to work on using those adjectives so as not to come across as belittling to you, I guess.

The problem you have is reality shows your words to be false.

Nothing i offered in my post above represents bro science. It is all verified real science in terms of what underlies it.

Your approach is to lash out against anything unknown or new to you as if it must be bro science or wrong, thus why you come across as the wannabe expert. Also the fact that you feel you have to reply or disparage even when you really have nothing to say, as you clearly do not think anyone but you should be commenting on this subject matter, unless their views all align with yours.

I didn't comment on the veracity of your keto post. You commented in general about my posting, saying I belittle people, and I commented in general that refuting bro science is not belittling people - refuting things such as asserting that starvation mode is why obese people on diets can't lose weight, or how someone can eat thousands of calories above their TDEE and lose weight if it's a specific type of food and gain weight if it's another type of food.

I was not singling you out in that comment. The fact you think I was indicates you've got a chip on your shoulder and you should probably take a breather.

So in just two posts I went from "knowledgeable enough to solicit an opinion" to "lashing out against anything unknown or new" to me? You're all over the place.

The only thing that was brought up in this thread that I haven't heard of was vagus nerve irregularities causing weight gain. Sounds like it could be quack science, but I didn't comment on it because I don't know.

When you reply to a person post you should expect them to think it is directed at them and not expect them to think you are referring to other non related things generally. Post better.

Also a person can be both knowledgeable and arrogant such that when they do not know something they get snooty. It is a common thing amongst people with big ego's and shallow self esteem. So I am right in the right place with that comment.

My posting is clear. You said I'm an ass**** to everyone, and I used the word someone in that post when explaining the position I take toward everyone. Someone means some person.

In the very next paragraph, when I was specifically talking about you and how you call everyone stupid and dumb, I specified you by using the word you and not the word someone.

Seems like projection.

I don't make demonstrative posts about things I do not know about. You, however, will call people stupid, dumb, ******ed, and so on pretty regularly.

Since you have your shrink hat on, why do you think it is that you do that? Do you think calling someone stupid is going to persuade them into thinking you're right about something?

In either case, ya got me cooling down after a 24 mile run and recovering with a bunch of apples, so I did your research for you while snacking on some tasty apples. Depends whether we mean low-carb in general or full medical keto.

If the former then I'm finding that if you're getting enough fibre and vitamins and minerals from vegetables and (some) fruit then you already have enough carbs so you just eat stuff in the lipid-protein class a lot of the rest of the time like meat dairy eggs. Obviously subjective but I'd class as "garbage" the white carbs I've pretty much left behind.

If the latter then yes eating magic diet powders isn't fun.

I'm on team low-carb, but it's still about what you consume versus what you burn.

If a person on low-carb takes in more calories-worth of fat than they burn, does the fat:
A) swim around the arteries,
B) get urinated out as a greasy drool, or
C) find its way to the body's fat stores despite there not being a high insulin level

I certainly hope it's C. But it's hypothetical as most people aren't going to be in that position as they don't have carb crashes stoking their appetite and depressing their activity levels.

I had a conversation about this with an expert (bodybuilder / trainer / nutrition coach for 25 years) about this recently. She said it depends on the type of fat. If it's animal fats they'll tend to stick to you (C), and if it's seed oils you'll just poop it out if you have excess. She said she heard that from Slyvester Stallone's chef in the 90s. I had never heard that before so take it fwiw.
