Boris' team must think final 2 is in the bag. He is promising (by which I mean 'probably lying about') giving a big tax cut targeted directly at the party members. Main beneficiaries of it would be wealthy pensioners

WTF I just checked the odds at the moment. Boris clear favourite, with Hunt behind. Ok, I can see that....

But Leadsom is 3rd, and a long way ahead of the others. What the hell...

Raab at 22/1 and Javid at 18/1 look quite underpriced.

I guess those in the know think she probably has the 33 MPs needed to get past the 2nd round. The other contenders are maybe fighting for the same support.

and the others are also working hard to make her sound relatively sane. We're somehow at the stage where being clearly against shutting down parliament sounds very sensible.

Brexit is back proper now

Quote:
MPs are now voting on Labour's motion.

If it passes, MPs will be able to introduce legislation on 25 June to try to avoid a no-deal scenario at the end of October.

So I assume remainers will shut up about this now?

Fat chance the antidemocratic morons will do that.

I understand why Boris has lots of negatives from lots of people, but as far as I can see he is the only one saying this:

Quote:
Boris Johnson has said he is "not aiming for a no-deal outcome" for Brexit at the launch of his campaign for the Tory leadership.

But he said the threat of no deal was a "vital" negotiation tool
Which is such common sense it just has to be a requirement for a leader. If it weren't for that, maybe rational choosers could choose others, but as long as they 'rule out no deal' they exclude themselves from leading a negotiation successfully.

I thought a few we're saying it. I don't agree with Boris but it does make sense. It's not even really a position, it's just a fact that for committed leavers, there's either a deal that parliament can agree to or it's no deal. The EU know this so it can't be added as a new threat.

Remainers job is to defeat boris if he becomes PM. The EU know this as well which is why remain is also always on the table. There's nothing Boris/etc can do about that except try not to lose to the remainers.

Interestingly the main tactic of Boris or similar may be to not bring any brexit related motions in front of parliament so that they cannot be amended to prevent a no deal. If so it may come down to bringing down the government as the only way to prevent a no deal.

Sorry no chance of anyone shutting up.

I don't think Labour had any choice on the timing but the tories in parliament are at a maximum unity while they elect a new leader so it was a bad time to bring this motion. Once elected there's a very short honeymoon but then any splits/divisions will start to reappear.

It's not really a negotiation tool when you state that it's a negotiation tool.

There are no negotiations to be done at this stage, so it isn't common sense, it is just bollocks to say to make ***** happy and vote for him. So having it as a negotiating tool (and it has been **** all use so far) is pointless.

Yes it can be. In a healthy negotiation there can absolutely be relatively perfect Information situations where you both honestly state your alternative to the negotiated agreement and look for mutual wins. You maximimize your EV there by improving your best alternative.

This is all 'beginner's first books on negotiating' stuff. Ensuring we have no alternative is a huge fail. I thought that'd get more appreciation on a gaming forum.

How is the threat of no deal Brexit a negotiation tool if the consequences are far worse for the UK than they are for the EU. Boris is just an idiot who is starting to believe his own lies and nonsense.

Freedom from the yoke of the EU, and having our national parliament being in the saddle rather than the harness, is what it's about now.
