They can't really assert that the responsibility of taking care of the migrants shouldn't be spread around to other cities. And if they assert that the migrants are being mistreated by being bussed, it would imply that their cities are a worse destination than those they were bussed from.
I agree generally but don't the border States get a lot of Federal Money for having to deal with this?

I do not think its fun for these governors but shows these liberal cities what they are dealing with. They got two busses how many folks you think Texas and Arizona deal with on a daily basis

The migrants also say they know the border is open now to cross
If we had a blatantly open border policy, people wouldn't be dying or paying drug dealers in an attempt to get here. Your first sentence contains contradictions within itself. DUCY?

There does not exist a reality where this was done to "show these liberal cities what they are dealing with". It's done to gather headlines and tweets, which seems to play the role of oxygen for some politicians these days. If they actually cared about the issue, they'd sit down with people and work towards solutions.

The only thing it shows is a complete lack of empathy, humanity and fiscal responsibility. Or to put it in simpler terms, it shows that DeSantis and Abbot are sacks of ****.
And moreso, the only reason the Dem States find out they are coming is because the Aid agencies in Texas and Florida are getting the word out. Both Texas and Florida Governors are trying to obscure they are sending and where they are sending them too. They also are very deliberately trying to send them to areas where the Dem States do not have the infrastructure to deal with them. They want to send them to the area with the least resources to handle homeless which is just unnecessary cruelness as DeSantis and Abbot are still getting the press at home they want, even if they send to those States, give the States a head up, and allow them to prepare for their arrival.

GOP politics, right now, just revels in the cruel.

Yeah. I guess that I can understand how you might think you were owning white limousine liberals by sending people to Martha's Vineyard. But you have to be absolutely crackers to think that you are going to teach people in NYC a lesson by putting migrants on a plane to JFK.

Framing this as “voluntarily getting on busses” obscures the fact that they were lied to about where the busses here heading, and you know it.

No I don't know that. Why would you think I know that and do you have a citation for this? As not only do I not know it, but I also won't just take your word for it either.

I would assume that they are humans. I would not expect humans to enjoy being shipped around like circus animals for the amusement of a political audience. Traveling for weeks on a bus from Venezuela doesn't make you immune to indignity.

I think the main reason we are not as welcoming of immigrants as we once were, is that robots and machines now do many of the jobs that "Americans won't do" and that we now have more laws propping up people past the point where supply and demand would economically assign them. Its not that people were kinder in the early days of the Statue of Liberty.

I literally posted a link to an NPR report addressing this one page ago. Stop playing dumb, you’re not clever enough to pull it off.

You might scare the migrants into getting back on the plane though. JFK has got to have the worst arrival/customs area of any airport. I would be really second guessing whether this is the land of opportunity based on the dingy warehouse vibe of that place.

It has been widely reported that the migrants that were sent to Martha's Vineyard were told that they were being sent to a place where they would get expedited working papers.

JFK was a palace compared to LaGuardia five years ago. La Guardia has improved somewhat, but New York's airports are still terrible for such a large city.

The NPR article says that someone was told Boston ...which sounds like it could easily have just been a one-off-- mistake. Idk how far Boston is from Martha's Vineyard but I can't assume it's too far.

DeSantis and Abbot obviously do not care about these people, hence to them they are just props. If someone believes otherwise, I can only recommend they be careful around investment advice.

Nor is this stuff pulled to resolve the issue or clarify a problem. It's done for that sweet, sweet social media engagement and to reach headlines. This is influencer-theatrics, not policy-making.

It's probably also a good way to do political campaigning on the taxpayer dime. This is an expensive stunt.

I just looked it up. It takes about two hours to get from Logan Airport to Martha's Vineyard. But you are missing the point. The issue is more about "why" than "where".

Still just going wave away the fact that they were lied to about their destination?

They are live interviewing many of the people as they get off the planes.

Many say they were told they were going some place else. Many say they were told their would be jobs waiting along with a quicker path for migration.

You can choose to not believe them, but I absolutely think that without some coercive language most would not hop on a plane to a point that would be as random to them as where they are. So why change locations unless promised something more.

I also heard it said that many of them have a duty to report back to the Courts they were processed in which means they will need to get back to Texas or Florida and if they miss that date, then that is a reason to just exclude them and send them home.

I never even thought of that. Jesus what a shitty thing to do to people.

Lucky put it this way.

Do you think the migrants arriving have a deep preference for Boston or anywhere as opposed to Texas or Florida, where they are, such that they would be looking to change destinations?

Moreso can you accept they would be weary and scared to get on a plane, thinking it might be a trap to send them home?

If you agree they have no preference and that getting on a plane would be seen as a risk to them, then it is fair to assume they were enticed and lied to, to convince them to, over what would be the natural objections of just staying put.

A speedier processing with more resources, jobs and other benefits are what are being promised, meanwhile the GOP governors are doing everything to they can to steer them away from areas where services exist to help in those regards. The governors wanted the scene of them being stuck on the street with no help available to them.

As a Venezuelan I'd certainly rather be in Florida than in Massachusetts. As anyone actually. But I'm sure Martha's Vineyard is a nice place to visit especially this time of year.

As well those that were interviewed said they know they will get in . Yes technically the border is closed but the message being sent is now is the time to come and its wide open

As for people that said many travelled weeks. Many have travelled months as well.

Yes Desantis or Abbott are playing politics but heck Desantis flew them there .

Do you think many of these migrants will return to Texas or Florida for their hearings?

Didnt the Chicago mayor quietly ship her migrants somewhere else as well? Or is that a right wing talking point
