Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday flew two planes of immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard

The Florida Republican was quick to claim responsibility for shipping the migrants to the small Massachusetts town

the migrants themselves said they had started the day in San Antonio, Texas

they were assured there’d be “work and housing“ when they arrived

Florida Legislature appropriated $12 million to implement a program
to facilitate the transport of undocumented immigrants from the state

Imagine the message this sends to those weighing whether to seek a better life:
If you reach the United States, Ron DeSantis might give you a free flight to a lovely coastal town in New England.

There is some excellent trolling going on here: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wire...dence-89952888

Two buses of migrants from the U.S.-Mexico border were dropped off near Vice President Kamala Harris' home in residential Washington on Thursday morning in the bitter political battle over the Biden administration's immigration policies.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been busing migrants out of Texas to cities with Democratic mayors as part of a political strategy this year because he claims there are too many arrivals over the border to his state. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey also has adopted this policy, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also got in on the act recently.

Well all these folks say there is no border crisis . Is Texas supposed to keep them all?

Two buses to the VP's house as well

Its an interesting strategy on Texas part.

Transporting people without their informed consent is usually frowned upon. But I’m glad you find it entertaining.

No one is being forced on these buses from my understanding? They are told they are being sent to another city. Once they are processed do you release them all in El Paso or were they cross?

I heard the ones sent to Martha's Vineyard were well received and treated properly.

They were blatantly lied to, as you know perfectly well. They did not want to go to Martha’s Vinyard.

What were they told? Where did they say they wanted to go?

Restaurants and Hotels in Martha's Vinyard must be ecstatic. I think come winter, when the temperature at night starts getting near freezing, that the Democratic governors of New York and other north-east states send buses of homeless people down to Florida for their own good.

It says a lot about conservatives that they find this kind of blatantly abusive treatment of people amusing. It’s just a fun bit of trolling for them.

And having a blatantly open border policy were people die attempting to get here with false hope that they can stay and many turning over their life savings to drug dealers who have no care for them or worse become trafficked

I do not think its fun for these governors but shows these liberal cities what they are dealing with. They got two busses how many folks you think Texas and Arizona deal with on a daily basis

The migrants also say they know the border is open now to cross

It's really their own fault for being brown and poor. Brown and poor have no business being in the states

They have business in border states, but not in Martha's Vineyard.

This really is a perfect encapsulation of the modern conservative movement: just pure sociopathy and theatrics.

If the southern governors only bus those who are accurately informed where they will be going and only if the travelers are ok with that, the mayors of those northern towns will still be able to say that the governors are using them as pawns in a publicity stunt. But if they go further than that in their statements, they are risking it backfiring. They can't really assert that the responsibility of taking care of the migrants shouldn't be spread around to other cities. And if they assert that the migrants are being mistreated by being bussed, it would imply that their cities are a worse destination than those they were bussed from.

I struggle to even understand the political universe where this makes sense.

You have governors denigrating the humanity of innocent people, while spending taxpayer dollars to use them as props to "punish" political opposition.

There does not exist a reality where this was done to "show these liberal cities what they are dealing with". It's done to gather headlines and tweets, which seems to play the role of oxygen for some politicians these days. If they actually cared about the issue, they'd sit down with people and work towards solutions.

The only thing it shows is a complete lack of empathy, humanity and fiscal responsibility. Or to put it in simpler terms, it shows that DeSantis and Abbot are sacks of ****.

Serious question...... what should be done with these migrants when they get picked up?

There’s a lot of nonsense to unpack here. America doesn’t have anything like “open borders,” even under Joe Biden. We did for much of US history but certainly not these days.

And the reason they have to pay drug dealers to sneak across the border is precisely because we dont have open borders! This is completely disingenuous.

At some level I do kinda agree that America is giving people a false hope that they can migrate here and build a better life. We should give France the Statue of Liberty back because this country obviously doesn’t believe in that **** anymore.

As if liberal cities needed advice for dealing with immigrants in the first place! San Francisco and New York have been handling this for quite a while now, thank you very much.

Why do these people need to be “picked up” in the first place?

I would put it differently. This is a perfect weather vane for where you are politically. If this horrifies you, then you probably will never vote GOP. If you think this is funny as hell, you probably love Trump and will never vote Democrat. If you think it is amusing to watch people in Martha's Vineyard scramble around and deal with this issue, but you aren't comfortable with migrants being put on buses and planes for the purposes of theater, you are probably in the group that has effective control over who the next president will be.

This is the part that makes me scratch my head. I can only assume the people thinking they're owning the libs have never been to these places. Speaking for New York, this is even more apparent in smaller cities like Yonkers and Mount Vernon.

The whole thing is silly of course but the political prop argument seems disingenuous. You've got people who have been traveling probably for weeks from places like Venezuela voluntarily getting on buses for another three days of travel. Do we think any of them care that their bus ride is a result of political games?
