This is a point Ezra Klein made in an election postmortem podcast, and I am paraphrasing, but generally he made the point whatever the political landscape looks like in 4 years will probably be something we aren't even considering now.

No one could have ever predicted the Obama presidency at beginning of Bush's second term; just as no one could have predicted Trump at the beginning of Obama's second term.
