i agree with this, we shouldn't lower the threshold for this in trial phases
if anything, we need to make more restrictions because the real issues come after the sentencing when there are years of appeals that cost the state millions of dollars
i've never understood how you can decide to kill someone but be so unsure of whether it being the right thing to do that you then hold them for a decade and allow them to repeatedly get do-overs in court
yes, there needs to be an appeals process, and yes we do make mistakes just frequently enough to where we find after the fact they were innocent, but if the system doesn't trust in itself enough to carry through the sentence in a timely manner then it shouldn't be done at all
