The "having a friend for dinner" line is straight from the movie. Horsenut will vouch that I am a man of lols and merriment, but I honestly fail to see how quoting this line absent all context is in any way even supposed to be funny.

i really think it started because Trump doesn't understand that political asylum is different than an insane asylum.. and he was too dumb to know that the word asylum had more than one meaning, and now he's just stuck trying to play it off like he meant it the whole time.

Yeah, I don't understand this mode of posting where we act confused/surprised when Trumpers post dumb trolling dogshit. Is it really confusing to you why a Trump booster is making bad-faith smears against BLM? I guess the pretense is supposed to be polite or something but it doesn't really make sense to me.

If you are speaking to or about me here, the purpose is to lay their deception bare. This has two purposes:

1) to make sure that disinformation does not get spread with no resistance
2) to whittle away at the protective barriers the poster has erected around their worldview.

To elaborate on the second point a little: I was one of them for about half of my life. What finally broke me out was having my pants pulled down in front of an audience like this repeatedly. I started to learn to actually make sure what I was saying was true before I said it - I would look things up first. This made me learn what was actually true and not just what I wanted to hear.

It was a gradual process, but I'm so thankful for it. If I hadn't been repeatedly called out on my bull, I shudder to think about what I would be like today.

You make a lot of good points here, but I feel like this creates a weird kabuki theater vibe where absolutely no one is posting honestly: we pretend in bad faith that we don't understand why right-wing trolls are downplaying an attempted fascist takeover of the US Capital. You can't really push back against right-wing nonsense effectively if you pretend you can't understand what's happening.

I'm not pretending not to understand, I'm simply exposing it. Nowhere in any of my posts was I pretending to not understand.

It means you're being incredibly patronizing. Which might be appropriate when you're teaching a small child about stoplights, but it's weird to see adults interact with each other in this way.

Beshear was of course referencing the 34 felony counts Trump was found guilty of in his hush money case.

He's a favorite to become President. So many people hate him yet he's like 1.6 to 1 to win the Presidency. Better get use to it - Kamala is braindead and will get destroyed in the debates. Wish the Dems had a better nominee.
