Click on the black arrow pointer in front of the Tournament number on the site. (Assuming the "Show registering tournaments only" option box hasn't auto-added a check mark back in, as it does with me.) Then scroll down.
Right on! Say Mike, I'm going to be away for a week. Can we change your name to Big Ugly Mike while I'm gone and have you answer a few more questions? No one will even know I'm gone!

Thanks for all your enthusiasm!

See everyone in a week...

Re: Big Ugly WTF? - Let us know what's broken.

Hi, just here to report two small bugs:
  • Last night while playing a hand on mobile (Android Galaxy S8, Chrome browser), no cards showed on the flop. Then on the turn, the cards still didn't show, until just before I timed out.
  • When I mistakenly turned phone to portrait a few times, then back to landscape, the table was resized too large and the buttons were off screen. Rotating the phone a few more times fixed it.

Overall, the design is pretty intuitive and user-friendly - I really like the way you've organized the design to minimize choices/button clicks, and I love how well the responsive design has been implemented for mobile.

One question - is there a setting to auto-muck instead of having to choose every hand?

Thanks for the feedback, I don't think we've seen this behaviour before. What type of phone are you on? And which browser are you using?

And thanks for the kind words, we've worked very hard to create a fun and simple to use table that doesn't limit you in anyway.

Auto-muck, four color cards, sounds, and a few other table options are at the very top of our to-do list. We're working on all of them now.

Thanks for the rapid reply! The to-do list sounds great.

I was on a Samsung Galaxy s8, using the Chrome browser.

Re: Big Ugly WTF? - Let us know what's broken.

Another thing to report - for my login, also chuckamuck on biguglypoker, it says that I'm playing in a play n go, but when I click play, it opens a window and doesn't let me join. I busted out on that table (28), and it seems to think I'm still playing there - but I don't get the chance to get seated and watch ads to get back in the game.

** Lol.. update - after I logged out and in again, the problem was gone!

In the "About Us" section on BigUglyPoker.com is the following:

We are Big Ugly Poker, a small team of people....

You'll see us around the site from time to time, sitting at tables and playing in the games.
I hate to point this out, but:

What could possibly go wrong?

You might want to re-think this policy of owners/employees sitting at tables where real cash prizes are involved. I think there is precedent in the poker industry over the past 2 decades to indicate this might not be a good idea.

We know who they are and they're not eligible for prizes so I don't have a problem with this.

Why are there Ads running EVERY 5 minutes or so during play? Explain that first, please?

Our site is ad supported. It's thanks to these ads that we can operate without ever taking any of your money. A signifigant portion of our ad revenue is put directly into the prize pool on our site. You can even watch the prize of a given tournament grow as people around the table watch ads!

Thanks, we're working through some issues with our ad provider. In the interim you should be receiving your credit anyway.

On the personal information page. It seems the taxes form part would only apply to America, as other countries loggicly have their own burocracy when it comes to that and some have no gambling tazes at all. You can't save your personal information pago without completing this form, and for those of us outside the states it does not really apply right?

You've got all of that right. And Tax info won't apply to anyone who wins less than $600 on our site. We would LOVE to have the kind of problem where our players are winning that much! We hope to soon. We'll fix this page well before anyone needs it. In the meantime, once you've signed up we don't need anything else from you. Go have fun!

Re: Big Ugly Poker

Hi just signed up and wanted to tell Big Ugly Poker guys my experience ...
- sign-up was easy enough
- software more or less worked - was playing poker and it was pretty smooth
- few issues with ads not playing but rewarding me anyway.. issue for you not me
- the view on mobile might need some work but unsure if you can hide the search bar since this is a web browser game?
-Could not save website to my home screen to make it a semi-app. Do not have the option to 'add to home screen'.

The main thing though was how this can be exploited due to not having to buy-in with real money...I even tested it and it worked...
Multi accounting, chip dumping and cashing out. Rinse and repeat. bots would be set to do this...

I tested as follows
Step 1- made an account called 'CheehC'
Step 2 - made an account called 'EhcchE'
Step 3 - Logged Cheehc into my laptop and EhcchE into my phone
Step 4 - Sat at the same table (easy enough because only 6 of us including these 2 accounts i made..)
Step 5 - Chip dump from EhcchE to CHeehc.
Step 6 - Everytime Ehcche busts, auto rebuy for 50 and watch an ad
Step 7 - When Cheehc gets to 1000 chips, cash-out for coins.

Could Repeat steps 1-7 but make 100 accounts and VPN for each.

Probably easy to detect after a while .. but none the less, thought id share as a potential problem. Unless having lots of bots on the site gets you more money from the people paying for the ads... (just don't tell them )

Thanks Cheehc, Our hope is that when the site gets busier, collusion won't be as big of a problem since you can't select where you sit down. Plus we will have multiple Play and Go tournaments coming soon, so you will be able multi table Play and Go's with the same account. We do realize that with the August Play and Go promotion, Chip dumping is an advantage.

We definitely don't want bots on our site, not only can that ruin the poker experience but it would also cause the rate we make per Ad watched plummet.

Cool.
Other things to share was that the behaviour by players at Level 1. It is effectively a freeroll cash-game structure at this level ... Blinds never raise and everyone is just going all-in preflop most of the time which i do not find fun. Would like some kind of deterrent to this behaviour. Ie if you bust and want to rebuy, you have to watch 1 ad.. if you have busted twice in the last 5mins, then 2 ads etc etc.
I shouldn't have to wait until level 2 to feel like I can lose something (potential coins because i have 1000+ chips in stack).. You need to have some sense of lose at level 1..
Wait till the next big blind before you can rebuy.. i don't know..

The overall look and Feel of the site could do with some TLC as it was a bit of a put-off in some areas.

Anyway, good luck

Re: Big Ugly WTF? - Let us know what's broken.

I decided to give it a try. I understand the reasons but there must be a better solution to the ad placement. Maybe have it replace the table graphic so the thing you are looking at is also the ad but you can still see the hand as well. Obviously this kills click-throughs.

Also, I had it happen twice where I clicked on the bar to set a raise value and before I was able to hit the raise button the bar reset to minimum. Very intermittent though.

Ad placement is very much a topic of ongoing development. We have tools/plans in place to make watching ads when you're not in a hand easier. There are other things we're kicking around and the community has had some great ideas. We're on it.

The slider is... not great. It's on our radar too, very near the top of the to-do list.

I've played on BUP a lot this past week and I have an opinion about the ad placement.

The ads are intrusive at first, until you learn that you can watch the ads whenever you want by clicking on the clock. For example, in the PnG the ads can be watched at any point when less than 6 minutes are on the ad timer.

Let's say you are UTG and the clock says 5:59. You are dealt 72o so you muck. You then click the ad timer, the ad covers the table (good for the advertisers), and after 10 to 15 seconds you click the "X" to close the ad and you see the rest of the hand, and the ad timer is now at 11:45. It is usually the case that the preflop betting has not completed before you return to the table.

The only concern I have is if it's changed so that we would need to view the entire 30 seconds (or longer) commercials.

I think it's important for BUP to emphasize the following:

1. You can watch the ads when you want.
2. You can close the ads ("X") after 15 seconds and have credit for watching.

Overall I'm pleased with the design for watching these ads.

Using the common 80 losers/20 winners rule, that means the 200 winners will win an average of 37.5 cents per hour each, or $375 per year each.

Therefore, the top 40 of these 1,000 players will win an average of $1.87 per hour each, or $1,875 per year each.
Is anyone checking your math?

40 * 1875 = 75000

So the top 40 players take all the money? One of us is confused.
