I know that one just making sure there are none I'm missing.

Before wsop merged with other player pools, I think it was 2016, I could not withdraw from out of state so I asked them to close the account and send me a check.

Now I'll be in nevada again for a while so curious what my options are.

Thanks!
We should really put some of that information into the first post of the thread, and then include an indication in the title that the first post is updated sometimes.

Fair enough. Nothing wrong with looking for an update, but since you didn't mention it I figured you hadn't read the OP. My sarcasm was given with a dose of love, honest.

Perhaps someone with more to contribute will pop by as well. If there's anything new, we're always happy to update the OP.

Appreciate it.

Hoping I can still play on wsop.

If you haven't already, it would be a good idea to email WSOP and see what they say.

If you live in a state which has not legally regulated poker, but are still allowed to play on sites such as ACR and Bovada, is it still illegal? I know it is illegal to run poker games, but what about playing them and cashing out for real money? My worry is that once I start withdrawing and depositing into my bank, it will get flagged by the bank for unusual deposits and possible repercussions could come from it. Anyone have any experience with this? Any input on this is much appreciated!

I did. They replied in the middle of the night last night and it is now answered.

I hadn't played on the site since mid 2016. In March 2017 they told me since I hadn't logged in since June 2016 my account is in dormant status. I either needed to log in or be charged a $4.99 monthly fee. I emailed them telling them I wouldn't be in Nevada for a while and if I could withdraw. Could not log in to withdraw so asked them to send a check and close the account. They did.

I'll be in Vegas a lot this year so wanted to know if I can even play on there anymore. My account from 2016 no longer exists and I need to create a new one. Not sure if this is just for me or if everyone needed to make a new one when the player pools merged?

I am also interested in this, since banks can be annoying about this stuff. One would think that since its not illegal to PLAY poker that money you make playing poker should be able to deposited in your bank account

I'm sure there's a better explanation than what I'm about to give (in the sticky?). Anyway, fwiw:

Banks don't make decisions like that. It isn't so much that playing poker is illegal, so much that it is finds that are potentially ill-gotten. As a small example, I have a friend that used to run a dispensary, and Banks wouldn't touch him. He basically got a vault installed in his house, to keep his money in. This is also why dispensaries are cash only. Banks and more specifically credit cards are skiddish when it comes to transactions that may become considered illegal, even if it's considered so in the future. It's basically self preservation. As a bank, the last thing you'd want is the federal government thinking you were assisting criminal elements.

Federally, so far as I am aware, no one has ever been prosecuted for playing online. But that doesn't necessarily mean that it's completely legal. A lot of the legality is going to depend on your jurisdiction. To me, if they aren't likely prosecuting people for it, I consider it legal Where can US players play? - First post updated Jan '23. The doj went after ps and ft, but they used a statute that even they admitted was probably incorrect. PS decided not to fight it, essentially because they still have the rest of the world.

This type of thing was essentially why Bitcoin was invented. We'll that and silk road. Nonetheless, your going to be hard pressed to find a bank to work with you on this. Before I lived in a regulated area, I never really had a problem with deposits. Withdrawals were the issue. I had a acr card back in the day, but when crypto picked up, I did that. Super simple imo.

Ok so if you are going to play(and plan to make money from) online poker it is best to use crypto to get paid? I don't know much about crypto but is it a problem that it has tanked?

Yes, crypto-currency is the best option in the current climate with regards to both depositing, and withdrawing, from offshore poker sites.

It is by no means a foregone conclusion that running a poker game is illegal. This varies wildly by state, and in some cases by county, parish, city, etc.

Check your local laws / with a local attorney.

Just to respond to a couple of questions, Ignition (Bovada) uses a Canadian bank and an innocuously named account. The bank may charge a fee for foreign checks, but there is no reason they would flag the account or view the check as suspicious.

Ignition is pushing Bitcoin hard, and even offers a bonus for opening a Bitcoin account to accept payment. Their free check limit is $3K every three months, and a $150 charge for greater amounts or more frequent checks (as I recall).

I don't like the volatility of Bitcoin, and honestly I don't know enough about it to know how I would convert it or spend it. I have chosen a check every three months, which keeps me under the radar with the bank.

Since this post was started rather long ago. Can anyone give any insight as to where residents in PA can play right now? I know our state did just pass legalization of online poker, but it still hasn't "officially" went live.

Thanks

Pai Wang Luo, Chico, WPN, Global Poker are the big networks/sites. Intertops, Merge and Seals with Clubs should be options as well with smaller player pools.

Ignition/Bovada = PaiWangLuo
BetOnline/SportsBetting = Chico
ACR/BlackChip/True = WPN

So yes that is an option.

It's a legit option on the PWL Network.

Don't hold your breath. The re-re-reinterpretation of the Wire Act of 1961 by the Department of Justice in November (publicly released in January) has made PA Gaming Board think twice about proceeding.

Yea I've been following that whole 1961 wire act drama. So friggen stupid why we as american's are so regulated anymore. The government wants more and more. It would be nice to be able to play online, but I'm fortunate to live in an area with many casino's near by. The online thing is just easier playing part time. LET US PLAY!!

Unfortunately, the rake is absurd/unbeatable unless something has changed (possible, as I haven't checked in a few months).
