Everything appears to be on course for a 1st July launch but it's not completely confirmed so I'd be prepared for it not happening until Q4.

No hard dates set for this yet. Hopefully at some point over the summer.

********************

As you may be aware, a new turnover tax on gambling is expected to come into effect in Germany from the 1st of July 2021. This new tax will have a big impact on poker, and we anticipate that we’ll have to make the following changes from the 1st of July onwards: -

• Cash games will be disabled for DE players
• SNGs will be disabled for DE players
• The loyalty program will be disabled for all DE players

We felt it was best for the players to give you this information as soon as possible to allow you to the maximum time to use and bonus points, tickets and bonuses if you normally play one of the affected game types. We would also like to reiterate that these are proposed changes and are subject to change if there are any developments regarding the implementation of the new tax before July 1st.

Will my account be closed?
No, your account will remain open after July 1st and you’ll still be able to play Hexapros and MTT as well as still being able to access the bonus shop to use any remaining bonus points you have.

Will I have to pay tax on MTTs/Hexapros?
No, Initially Unibet will cover the cost of the tax but this may be subject to change in the future.

What will happen if I move to another country?
Any players that move to another country will be required to open a new account and we will transfer any tickets, bonus points, challenge points and playthrough bonuses over to the new account.

What will happen to my tickets and challenge rewards after July 1st?
The current proposal for tickets and rewards are below (may be subject to change): -

SNG Tickets – Any unused SNG tickets will be converted to bonus points.

Cash Game Tickets – Cash game tickets will be converted to cash if 50% or more of the flop requirement has been met.

Challenge Rewards – If your primary game in Q2 was cash games or SNGs and you earned more than 500,000 challenge points in Q2, the rewards you would have received at the start of Q3 as part of your carryover from Q2 will be awarded as cash.

Active Bonus – If your primary game in Q2 was cash games or SNG the current step of your active bonus will be paid out in cash if you have completed 50% or more of the rake requirement. Any other outstanding steps will be converted to bonus points. This will only apply to bonuses bought in the bonus shop or won via the loyalty system.

Pending Bonuses – If your primary game in Q2 was cash games or SNGs then any pending bonuses will be converted to bonus points. This will only apply to bonuses bought in the bonus shop or won via the loyalty system.

If you have any questions, please post them here or you can send me a PM and I’ll try to help wherever I can.

Will this have a big impact on traffic for cash games? What percentage of total players is represented by german players?

It's a few % so there will be a small impact if the changes are implemented.

Is Unibet pursuing any legal action against the turnover tax?

Not as far as I'm aware but that's not to say nothing is going on behind the scenes. I'm sure the legal team are doing everything they can. The change obviously affects all the gaming sites and is a big hit to casino games as well so I expect there is pressure coming from a number of places.

Any new information I get I'll pass on as soon as I can.

There is some pressure, maybe something happens before July 1st.

BTW, it seems Greens will win the next Germa elections, is it good for online gambling? Maybe some inside info from our German friends, it seems the same party grows stronger in many countries (including mine). What should we expect?

I don't think there's a big difference in any of these parties in regards to how they would've regulated the gambling market fwiw. The entire GlüStV was penned by Hessen's federal government as far as I understand and many of the states have reluctantly accepted that, SPD was even pushing for stricter regulations. In any case both, the taxation as well as the GlüStV, will cause some law suits as there's an obvious discrepancy between how offline and online gambling are regulated which disadvantages online gambling significantly. Another key fact is that various modes of gambling (sports betting, casino games AND poker) which are inherently very different are taxed in the same manner. I'm guessing that leaves some grounds to file lawsuits as it basically promotes various forms of gamblings over others.

Even just strictly talking poker, Unibet's decision showcases that while MTTs might be still something they could offer under new regulations, they have understood that cash games can't be operated profitably under these circumstances. In essence, the regulation has now created a situation where it has disproportionately discouraged one form of a specific gambling game. The proof will be in the pudding once we'll find ourselves in a situation that sites will no longer offer cash games. And if that happens, they'll either increase MTT rake to kill poker once and for all, or they'll be forced to move to a taxation model that taxes the income (like any other regulated market and like offline gambling in Germany).

Another driver of a possible change in regulations in the future will be that according to economists, the tax revenue will not be optimized if taxes are too high as players move to unregulated sites. If the law suits don't hurt the, in the end the economic impact of bad regulations will force a reevaluation. It's borderline amazing that they've come up with a lose-lose situation when a win-win situation was readily available.

As to my understanding of the matter, it will get worse for us by July and it will get better in the future. However it's very unclear when that future will be.

Why does time bank, in some rare occasions, not turning on automaticlly and my hand got auto-folded? It happened today in SNG when I limped, villian iso shoved and my hand got auto folded without turning on time bank.
I have time bank auto-start turned on in settings and hand after that I had 20 sec of time bank.
Also in the past that was happening sometimes too.

Can you give me a table alias and the rough time of when the issue happened please? I'll get Relax to take a look at it.

Yeah I've noticed that in cash games. Very infrequent but incredibly frustrating.

i think Unibet need something to get the Cashgame-players motivated

Play an amount of x hands a day or a leaderboard like GG-Poker

when the new loyality System was mentioned i had no motivation to play, and now it launches at July. i dont get the long delay.

I was a regulary Player and now for 5 months i didtn play because of the lack of good promotions for me. ( and the mission come on this is nothing for an only CG-Player)

The loyalty system needs to be launched at the start of a quarter which is why it'll hopefully be July 1st. If not, it'll be October 1st.

Spring Bootcamp is running until the end of the month, Penalty Hero will run in June and then the Summer Bootcamp will run with daily leaderboards in July. There is also a cash promo booked for September so there is something for 3 of the 4 next months for cash players specifically.

By "Better promotion" do you mean more and/or earlier communication via SMS, email and things like that? More advertising on affiliate sites or forums? If so, any sites in particular that are good at promoting promotions for competitors?

For the layout of the leaderboard, do you mean how it visually looks in the client and/or site or do you mean the mechanics as in how points are earned or the payout distribution?

Our marketing guy loves this kind of feedback so if you can provide something more detailed I can pass it on.

Game Lab will be part of the loyalty program release, it has some similarities to Pokercraft.

Chat emotes will be coming with the table refresh over the summer.

Curious what is planned in the table refresh?

Are tables still gonna be in that nonsensical wide screen format?

Who's to say everyone else isn't doing it wrong and square tables are nonsensical? Format is not changing.

The refresh is just to tidy up and improve the elements that exist and add a couple new features.

u know the story of a man who is driving on a one way road and listening to the radio news which claims that one studip driver goes opposite diretion in the xy one way street his reaction is:

-one?!? ALL OF THEM!!

i play as above shown: tables are overlapping because the red line highlighted places are toltally useless/not used.
if it was cut as other sites do we could make the tables bigger and would be easier to read the player names (to me it would be nice). a big portion of the monitor is not used on the bottom so tables are quite small when tiled

i hope you are not too stubborn so sometimes it will change

It's not about being stubborn, it's about being practical.

Making the client in two different ratios, one for desktop and one for mobile just takes extra resources that we don't have.

The nameplate is being redesigned as part of the refresh.

I like the way it is now. It's probably bad only if you're using a monitor from 2006. I have a 4k monitor, and it fits perfectly 9 tables without any overlap.
