IMO this is evidence of the great work of the poker community. Sometimes all we have to do is tip the scales just a bit in our favor by demonstrating support for what we're doing.

Here's an AP story that quotes it: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011...-ld-writethru/

Quote:
<snip> The bulk of the questions appeared to come from participants who want Congress to legalize online poker.

Reid, a former Nevada state gambling regulator, unsuccessfully pushed a bill to legalize online poker at the end of last year. The Department of Justice indicted in April executives and payment processors of online poker's three biggest companies _ PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.

Reid reiterated his support for online poker during the town hall, but stopped short of promising to usher a bill through the Senate this year.
"Online poker would create jobs and lots of jobs," he said.

The acknowledgement by Reid is great. I really feel like all these efforts are having an effect now. We need to keep pushing harder, as the end of the year is just around the corner.

It will take you less than thirty seconds! Thank you for participating. Let's reach out to key supportive lawmakers today to thank them and to encourage them to move forward.
  1. Send prefilled, editable tweets to Sen. Harry Reid (HERE), Rep. Joe Barton (HERE), and Rep. John Campbell (HERE) [Rep. Barney Frank is not on Twitter].
  2. Try to wait an hour or so and then send these tweets to Sen. Reid (HERE), Rep. Barton (HERE), and Rep. Campbell (HERE)
  3. Send a prefilled tweet promoting today's action plan HERE.
Please reply in this thread with "tweeted", "done", etc. to encourage others to participate. Please also consider revising your profile location to indicate support for the action thread. The past 22 actions have generated triple-digit participation, so let's keep it growing. Thanks!

Some additional information:

Great job on the Twitter messages to Sen. Reid all! We represented well over half the submitted town hall questions, which was duly noted by the Washington Post, AP, and Politico, and poker sites like PokerFuse. So, we got the attention of the senator as well as some media. Additionally, he answered our question affirmatively (at time point 9:58) : This really shows that we are heard when we speak together with one voice.

-----------------------------------

If you wish to do more today, let's continue to reach out to the deficit super committee's new website. They asked for our input, so let's provide plenty! PPA sent out a member-wide alert on this, so we know there will be a lot of participation.
  1. Go to the committee contact page HERE.
  2. Fill in your name and address (AutoFill will make quick work of that).
  3. If you did NOT do this yesterday, cut-and-paste the text HERE and submit. Feel free to edit or write your own, of course.
  4. If you DID do this yesterday, cut-and-paste a new letter HERE and submit. Again, feel free to edit or write your own, of course.
  5. Please ask your spouse, significant other, family, and friends to participate as well. Feel free to offer to help them out with it, of course.

On September 22nd, many GOP primary candidates will attend the Fox News/Google Debate, where they will be answering some viewer-submitted questions. Questions with the most votes will be answered live by one or all of the candidates. So, let's get a lot of votes!

  1. Click HERE to visit the debate website.
  2. Look for the vote tab in the left hand corner of the page under the heading FoxNews/Google Debate logo.
  3. Then, under the topic menu, select Jobs and Economy.
  4. Go to the search box under Ask a Question and search for the term "poker".
  5. Find the video by “John from Washington DC”. You may need to scroll down to find the video.
  6. After watching, cast your approving vote by clicking the “Thumbs Up” icon. You will need to be logged into your YouTube account to vote. YouTube does not show results instantly. It seems they do it as a batch upload. I Googled it a bit and found many comments on it, but no real answers. So, your vote will not show up immediately when you cast it.
  7. If you are not able to watch the short video, this question was submitted as text as well, so please vote it up there.
  8. Send a prefilled tweet promoting today's action plan HERE.

If you need detailed instructions, please click here for a step-by-step video.

Please reply in this thread with "tweeted", "done", etc. to encourage others to participate. Please also consider revising your profile location to indicate support for the action thread. The past 23 actions have generated triple-digit participation, so let's keep it growing. Thanks!

Lots of reading and directions with today's plan. I did it, but it did seem rather daunting at first glance

Ok! Happy to say my brain did good with the picture you provided. PEOPLE, just look at the PICTURE. It really is easy!

Took more than 30 seconds though because I watched the video, which is 38 seconds. Took less than a minute, total.

I thumbed up the text part as well as the video, but we're in real trouble. There are as many votes against us as there are for us. I know you said the vote count is slow, but the ratio is what I'm concerned about.

SO EVERYBODY GET THIS DONE. If *I* can do it, pretty much *anybody* can do it.

IT TOOK LESS THAN A MINUTE!
