H.R. 2366, the Online Poker Act, has been referred to three committees in the House: Energy and Commerce, Judiciary, and Financial Services. Let's Facebook them all!

The FOR/AGAINST/UNDECIDED/UNKNOWN after each name is based on H.R.1174, the Campbell/Frank online gaming bill. The names with an “x” in front of them are those who do not allow direct posting on their Facebook wall. No problem for us. Just post a comment in response to a post already on the page. PLEASE BE SENSITIVE about this though. If the post says the Congressperson is being treated for cancer, don’t bother them with poker. Tell them to get well soon. I sent him a Facebook message with a request to delete that comment and to make one more focused on the broader issue.

He's consistent though. His previous comment was about deporting Preet's aunt. Grrrrrr.

For those who have never done advocacy work of any kind before, being a jerk does more to derail our good works than staying out of it. If you can't be a decent human being, just don't advocate for your own cause. There are a lot of lazy poker players out there, but I'd rather you be lazy than stupid.

We have really seem a big change here. When UIGEA passed, most of the KY delegation supported it. A mere three years later, the entire KY House delegation, plus Sen. McConnell, signed a PPA-drafted letter requesting a delay in implementation of the UIGEA regulations. The delay letter was based on concerns of the horse industry, but it was great for us to have the cooperation.

Rather, the goal of the call is simply to let these lawmakers know that their constituents support the right to play. • Regulation means strong consumer protections as well as billions of dollars in federal and state revenue.
• Please support my freedoms and support this bill.

If you've not done this yet, please have a look at it now. If you have, please like some of the pro-poker comments. It's not every day that a 100% FoF-rated conservative lawmaker posts pro-poker comments. IMO he needs to hear from all of us.

Congress will be breaking for its annual August recess soon, so let's start preparing now for our senators' and representatives' townhall meetings. Townhalls are a great opportunity for us to meet with our Members of Congress to tell them that we want pro-poker legislation, so let's all try to do this.

Not all townhall meetings are widely advertised. To get the most up-to-date information, please take the time now to call your Member of Congress and ask that you be notified should any townhall meetings be scheduled.

The PPA put together a useful guide that gives the ins and outs of townhall meetings, including a tool to get phone numbers for Congressional offices.

Any fellow Alabama poker players want to meet up and hit some District 7 office? Terri Sewell is my rep in Tuscaloosa. I think Spencer Bachus might have an office here too. It would be good if we could get a cross-section of folks together -- to visually impress upon people that online poker players come from all demographics. I would be representing the poor 50 y/o disabled white female demographic. It wouldn't break my heart if Shannon Shorr joined us!

August is soooooo the wrong month for me to get out (I'm heat intolerant), but I'll do it if we can get a small group together. Otherwise, I'll prolly just do phone and email stuff.
