All of a sudden I can't import my Stars notes into PT. PT tells me it cannot locate the note folder. I'm assuming this is due to one of the recent Stars updates and they must have changed where the note file is. Even so, I don't know where it is located now and/or how to update the setting in PT. Can anyone help me with this? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I don't use PT but the file name is notes.txt

It can be found in Program Files\Pokerstars\notes.txt

Maybe your notes.txt file is corrupt.

Make a copy of it and rename it to something like notes_old.txt

Now open the notes.txt file by double clicking on it.

Notepad will open up. Then just do a simple File Save As to the same name "notes.txt". Basically, you are just overwriting the file and usually this straightens the file out.

Hopes this helps.

Make sure Stars is closed when you do any work on the notes.txt file, otherwise when you close stars the work you've done will be lost. (Basically Stars takes the notes and holds it in memory. When you close stars, it re-writes the file with what was in memory, losing anything you worked on while the client was active...)

Are you using Vista? This is probably the reason.

Thanks, but I do have both Stars and PokerAce shut down. The error message I'm getting is that the Stars note file does not exist. I can't understand that, since I've used this import/export feature almost every day until a couple of days ago when this message all of a sudden started popping up. I don't get it.

Yes, but it was working with Vista and then all of a sudden stopped. It doesn't make sense. If I recall correctly, it was after a Stars update, so I assumed it had something to do with that.

We are trying to help, but you are a little unclear.

1) Do you have a c:\program files\PokerStars\notes.txt file?
2) If so, what happens when you double click it in explorer? Can you read it? Can you semi-understand it?
3) Do you have any files like c:\program files\PS_Notes_20070122_1.txt ? (These are backup notes files made whenever PT *exports* it's note file.

Answer these questions and we'll be able to help you a lot more.

Thanks Sapphire, that did help. I found a file called PS_Notes__20080303_1.txt. in the Poker Stars directory.

I directed PT to use that and it DID import. But I'm concerned that I didn't permanently fix the problem. What's up with the date in the note file? Is that going to keep changing?

I appreciate the help. In the Stars main directory, I have a file named notes.txt.migrated and under 'type' it's listed as a MIGRATED File. I'm not sure what 'migrated' means. It's 17KB, so I'm not sure what this file is, but it isn't a text file that PT will recognize for import.

There's another file called PS_Notes_20080303_1.txt. That IS a text file type and when I directed PT to this file it DID update the notes (or it appeared to do so). But like I said, I'm not confident the problem is solved. I don't understand why the file name would include a date. I haven't checked to see if this file is completely updated with ALL my player notes. I'm not sure how I'd check that.

So something is really funny. Obviously, this file named changed somehow. I certainly didn't change it manually. The only thing I can think of is that this occurred during a software update from Stars. No one else is having this problem? Thanks again.

Make a copy of notes.txt.migrated, and rename it to notes.txt ?

In a perfect world.... You should of have a notes.txt file. Then, when you export from PT to PokerStars..... PT renames the old notes.txt file to PS_Notes_20030303_1.txt AND then exports the notes from PT to the normal notes.txt.

You PS_Notes_20080303_1.txt file should be a good notes backup file from March 3. Any changes since then are not in that file.

What is the size of PS_Notes_20080303_1 versus the size of notes.txt.migrated? What is the date/time stamp on the migrated file? You may be able to do better with it than the March 3 file.

You're getting there!

Edit: You can always just export notes from PT and it will make a backup of the current notes file (see above) and then create a new notes.txt file with all the notes you have in PT. Then you're good to go. (You will have lost all new notes since the last time you imported notes into PT. )

Wow, you're good kitty!

I can't open the notes.txt.migrated file, but according to the details log it was last modified 3-10-2008. I'm sure I've made notes (while playing on Stars), since then. And not suprisingly, the PS_Notes_20080303_1.txt was last modified on 03-03-2008.

I see no other note file in the Stars main directory! What the heck happened?! Somehow my normal notes file disappeared?

I'm sure I just lost the majority of notes when I imported the file from 03-03-2008. I don't get it.

Edit: PS notes file is 17KB and the 200870303 notes file is 7KB. So it seems to me that this migrated file used to be my note file. I'm not sure what happened.

Hello mate,

this is what pokerstars tech support told me yesterday:

"As part of a recent update the location of log files and your notes file
on Windows Vista machines was changed.

The easiest way to find them after downloading our latest update is to:

1. Launch our PokerStars software
2. Go to the 'Help' menu in our lobby and select 'Open My Settings Folder'

The directory containing your current log files, user.ini, notes.txt file
and other information will be opened. This change is very recent and
experimental. Please put any notes file you wish to use at that location
(which is only accessible using the menu opotion in our software) and make
sure it is named notes.txt."

hope this helps.

Sounds like you got it fixed. Well, at least as well as you can.

Anyway, here's what I do...

When I'm done playing a session, the first thing I do is start importing my notes into PT. Then, while that's running, I take a bathroom break, grab a bite to eat or whatever. Then I come back to the computer and review my session, add any notes as needed, then export my notes back to PS. Then start the vacuum/analyse and leave the computer. I also start my backup.bat file that makes a copy of all import poker files. (HHs, .ahk files, .cfg & .txt)

That way I always have a backup of my notes file & I'm never waiting around for the importing/exporting or vacuuming. Also, once every couple days I backup my PT database.

Good Luck,

LOL, we have identical routines! At least I did until my import stopped working. If you're playing on Stars I can't understand why you're not having the same problem. Maybe something just got corrupted on my computer. I'm still not sure how to fix the problem. PT can't find the notes.txt file. It's there, but I can't get PT to point to it. Frustrating....

Vista (I'm on XP)

I'd try TheEye's suggestions.

I never knew you could import player notes from Stars (the notes.txt file) into PT.

What's the procedure for this in PT3? What about if I'm reviewing a hand after the fact and want to export the notes back to the notes.txt file?
Stars Notes Quote

PT3 is not yet capable of doing this.
