Im looking for advice or possibly an opinion. Ive been playing on Carbon poker the last 14 months and have netted over 50k in rake paid!. Carbon Shut down my account at the very end of March 2014 because i Live in Kentucky. They provided me with a cash out, but refused to pay $875 in rake back and a $215 voucher. Do i have any options i can pursue other than post about it on the forums and tarnish their reputation which i do not really care to do. Would this even be considered "getting scammed?"

Thank you to any one who takes the time to respond

Here is a image of the conversation i had with their rep and supervisor

I just wanted to clear something up. I won a satellite to a $215 tournament. AND i had a complimentary $215 voucher for what im guessing is a high rake player. Im not asking for the complimentary voucher, im asking for my rake back which i didnt get a chance to redeem because i always redeem it on the 1st and my cash value for my $215 voucher i won via satallite.

You're absolutely right in thinking that what they are doing is ethically wrong. Unfortunately they are holding all the cards so they are going to do what ever they want. When they had Reps on the site sometimes the Reps would intercede and do what is right for the player but as it is, it sounds like you have hit a brick wall.

Most of the time when people post chats, it seems that they are posting to show how clever they were in insulting support. I think that you should get a lot of credit for handling the chat in such a level headed manner even though you didn't get the results you deserved.

Vadim,

I'd like to help you with this matter if I may. I'm going to PM you and ask for your user name. I'll take that to Carbon and see if we can get you some sort of compensation.

*Just wanted to post an update

Mr. Kahn got in contact with the higher ups at Carbon/Merge and helped me get a portion of the money, and Kahn was also classy enough to turn down the monetary gift i offered as gratitude. Im very grateful, would be great if the world had more people like him.

Was going to echo what Santa Cruz said (and not just because I graduated from UC Santa Cruz ) but will go with the update instead and say this thread is one of the better ones i've read lately in that: OP stayed classy with support even though support's position was in the wrong; some sort of arrangement was worked out, Kahn proved helpful and classy, and no rig theories were even mentioned! Nice.

Nice example of how to handle such a situation. Can you share how much you were able to get of the $1090 owed?

Standard Carbon/Merge trying to chisel you out of it.

In answer to your question about whether their attempted action can be considered a scam, yes. They had prior knowledge that they would be closing your account, yet they gave you no notice before closing it and let you continue to believe the terms of their promotional enticements would be honored.

They agreed to refund my $215 voucher, Claimed that once an account is closed VIP points can not be exchanged for cash, so "no" to rake back. I wasnt expecting to get anything out of them so I'm grateful Khan was able to get at least something.

Ridiculous. If they won't exchange the points after an account is closed, they should notify you before it's closed.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry you got ripped off. Current players should keep in mind that points are always at risk of being lost, whether through unannounced skin closing, unannounced VIP program changes, unannounced account closings due to location, or whatever next point scam they come up with.

Oh god, I almost forgot that they wiped my VIP point balance with no email notification (only in-client ones, and over the Xmas season, so I never saw any of them) a while back because they were changing the VIP program. Not that I'm still upset or anything.

After BlackFriday when PokerStars left the country they were pretty quick to give players cash for their VIP points even though they really didn't have to. Then in a second round they assessed each players points that were too few to fit into any VIP category and gave a cash equivalency that was actually a little higher than the points were worth. I hope that the folks who play at or work for PokerStars understand how lucky they are.

Very happy to help a fellow player if I can, no rewards necessary, as always
