No, you knew it was a short deck game. You apparently didn't realize (but should have) that removing some low cards from the deck changes the odds and probabilities, and changes the hand rankings. Depending on the variant, flush can beat full house, trips can beat a straight, and Ace can still be the low card in a straight even if the next lowest card is not a two. It's really a different game. You aren't playing with a standard deck.
