Source?

Ricestud played in Mexico pre black friday. Not just tourist areas either, he speaks spanish and travels into the cities, border towns, mountain areas, etc. He's far from some post black friday relocating player.

Not to mention that if Mexico banned online poker and the USA allowed it, Mexican players would probably be moving to the USA for at least a few weeks (as long as they possibly could in their individual situations) to keep grinding their livelihood. Pretty crappy if they reported a player because he's from another country. We're poker players and OUR governments have been screwing with a game they don't really understand for years. Maybe not the Mexican government, but it's hardly the US government that is screwing things up here. France, Belgium, Germany to name just a few.

anyone questioning 2 would be wrong. i think 1. is very debatable though. it may violate TOS to use a vpn, but it isn't inherently unethical by any means.

people being rude to ricestud are ignorant and the punishment in this case doesn't fit the crime.
If you replaced immoral with "knowingly against the rules of the site/country" that's fine.

Immoral is kind of a stretch though. Would you trust Ricestud less because of his actions? Do you consider him any lesser of a person? Do you think what he did was a bad thing? I think the people that slipped the loosely worded laws into unrelated legislation years ago that is now being aggressively interpreted in order to seize large sums of money is wrong and immoral. That's my opinion though.

Just to inform everybody posting here...this is absolutely rubbish that players from US are not playing on pokerstars. I know atleast 15 players who play from US soil since last 3-4 months. these are only players i know, their are much more in number... ppl may be laughing at me ... but this is truth.......

Now those who think that pokerstars can catch anybody..simply by spying on a computer via pokerstars software...it is not true.... come on its 2012.. in a world where bigger crimes like Fake currency...changing faces via plastic surgeries happen and criminals just walk away......a small crime like playing poker from US soil cannot happen?

"when there's will there's way"
i know what common mistakes ppl playing from US soil do....here it is.....

1) Bragging among their friends " that they do play from US soil".
2) posting on open forums like 2+2 about methods about how to play from US
3) Speaking truth...lol..(if u r playing sucessfully from US soil..just STFU..which is kind of difficult for players playing online..mostly lonely...lol)

in my views mistakes that ricestud did was...
1) keeping too much FPP pending..(shud have bought anything like tickets for MTT or cash anything)
2) keeping excess cash in account (shud have cashed out everthing by deliberately loosing to a non US player friend and then taking from him rather then trying to cash out urself)
3) sending email directly to PS from US
and many more steps..can be done to avoid being caught....

further

about BF and DOJ and ppl who are behind it....i can only laugh...

and to PS..i wish i could show them my naked ass...lol

i am a friend and admirer of ricestud... sorry for ur financial loss buddy..

have fun
cheers
Based on the stakes he plays and what his bankroll was at the time I would say he was underolled not overolled as you suggest

This was one of the main things I was trying to point out by making this thread. It's totally unreasonable to lifeban one player while allowing another to continue playing for the same offense.

wasnt the opening statement here that it shows stars do not specifically favor high volume players but maintains the rules for everyone?

Whilst I have sympathies for the individual in question do not think poker should be banned in the US and have no ill or negative wishes to the individual been discussed I worry this may be a sign of worse things.

if they let rules slide for high volume players now then how does that apply to high volume colluders? or Bots?
that's not to allege that pokerstars has ever let a high volume colluding ring get away with it, due to high volume or bots for the same reason But it does to me raise concerns and alarms that such could potentially happen in the future.
