Go into the directory you installed into and run the client direct bypassing the pokerstarsupdate program. Either that or change your system back a day/2days. These will fix it short term, stars say they are working on a fix now.

FWIW...I just wound back the clock as per their options below:

Email from Stars Support:
Unfortunately, our latest update presented some technical difficulties.

In the mean time, you may try the following alternative options to be able to connect to our server:

1. You may change your system’s date to June 22 2011 and then start your client.

For Windows:

Please double click on the time display on the bottom right hand side of your screen and change the date on your computer to June 22 2011. You may find more information about how to adjust your system date on the following link.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307938

For MAC OS:

1. Click on the Apple menu and select Control Panels, then choose Date & Time.

2. Remove the check mark from "Set date & time automatically"

3. Highlight the day and change it to June 22, either with the up and down arrows or by typing in the correct numbers.

Please change the system date back to today's date once the update has been successfully downloaded.

2. If you do not want to change your system date, you may reinstall your client in order to be able to connect to our server. You may wish to make a copy of "user.ini" (your preferences), "notes.xml" and "notes.user.xml" (where 'user' is your user ID) from the PokerStars software as they will be removed when you uninstall the software. To do this simply open the PokerStars software (if possible) and click on "Help" -> "Open My Settings Folder" and locate those three files and copy them to a safe temporary location. If you cannot open the software you will need to manually navigate to the settings folder to locate those files.

For Windows XP and older (C:\Program Files\PokerStars\):

1. Double click "My Computer" on your desktop or start menu 2. Double click "C:" drive to view your hard drive 3. Double click "Program Files" folder 4. Scroll down and double click on "PokerStars" (or PokerStars.NET) 5. Locate "user.ini" or "user", "notes.xml" and "notes.user.xml"
6. Copy the files to a safe temporary location (the desktop is a good choice)

For Windows Vista and Windows 7 (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\PokerStars\):

1. Click Start
2. Type the following or copy/paste into the Search and press Enter:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\PokerStars (or PokerStars.NET) 3. Locate "user.ini" or "user", "notes.xml" and "notes.user.xml"
4. Copy the files to a safe temporary location (the desktop is a good choice)

Once you have made a copy of those files, uninstall PokerStars from your computer.

In Windows XP, go to Control Panel -> Add and Remove Programs and remove all PokerStars items.

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. Once there, uninstall all PokerStars items.
When the program is fully uninstalled please restart your computer. When the computer has restarted, download and install a fresh copy of the software from the following link.

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/download/

For MAC OS:

Notes are located in:
/Users/[UserName]/Library/Application Support/PokerStars/ /Users/[UserName]/Library/Application Support/PokerStars.net/

User.ini is located in:
/Users/[UserName]/Library/Preferences/
It is saved as com.pokerstars.user.ini
It is saved as com.pokerstars.net.user.ini

Once you have made a copy of the files you will need to uninstall the software by dragging it into the Trash. Next please go to our site and download the .zip file again:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/download/mac/

Be sure to restore the two saved files once reinstalled. To do this, please go to the 'Help' menu and then back to 'Open My Settings Folder', then close PokerStars and copy the files back into the folder. If you are asked to overwrite any files accept. You should then have no additional problems.

Do not hesitate to contact us back at anytime if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Yeini

For some reason I can't open pokerstars this morning. When I click the icon it goes into it normal starting format and then a message says

"signature expired or wrong time setting"

I've never had this before in all my years. Is it something that will correct itself or do I need to change some of my settings?

Many thanks

Having this same issue. I'm sure it will be fixed eventually though.

Edit: Opening PokerStars.exe directly worked for me, fwiw.

This problem was widespread in Australia this morning. Some bright spark on an Aussie forum posted a remedy:

go into the time-settings on your computer and set the date back one day. Now open Pokerstars and it will work. Once the client has updated and opened you can restore your date setting.

So I am guessing that pretty much the only people playing right now are regs or people that read 2 plus 2. How many recreational players are just not bothering today then or going elsewhere........again!

Yeah - the field is certainly tougher today

As there's not much edge and the sun is shining - I'm gonna take a tip from the fish and go do something else

Overall I reckon PS's rake will be severely punished for their massive fail today.

I wonder if PokerStars has any intention to fix this normally or they'll continue to post "change your time settings" nonsense in only reg infested platforms. Softness-wise, this is probably the worst day in last 1.5 years...
