PokerStars/2+2-users: October 2012 Meeting: VOTING thread

With reference to PokerStars' invitation to meet with users of the forums, please now vote for your first choice of representative from the list in the "CV thread", after your having read carefully their statements of interest and intentions.

Please treat the vote seriously, and please do not vote more than once, (by using gimmick accounts).

Prospective reps may not vote for themselves.

Most important of all, you are only allowed to vote if your user account was opened prior to the announcement on September 27, 2012. You will receive an infraction / be banned if you do not abide by this rule, and the votes will be adjusted accordingly. (Genuinely interested parties: please assist me in this by posting in this thread if you notice such a vote.)

Voting will close in four days. Other voting threads or alterations to this process may follow, as I deem necessary.

Good luck to all the applicants.

MH

Re: PokerStars/2+2-users: October 2012 Meeting: VOTING thread

I thought the multiple choice was better. I like some ideas of one candidate and others of another. I would like to support both of them but now this is not possible. Even more, by voting for only one of them I virtually vote against the other. Plus single choice can be easily manipulated by a more popular member.

If people aren't going to take the matter seriously enough to vote objectively for the person they think will be the best representative, the simple popularity factor will always be an issue, whatever voting system we use.

Luke Staudenmaier (IWEARGOGGLES) has been one of my best friends for the past 5 years. He's always kept up with the issues in and surrounding poker. There are only a handful of people I have ever met capable of understanding issues and objectively making logical decisions as well as Luke can. If you don't know who to vote for but want a good rep for the games I recommend you pick Luke.

Main thing this thread needs to avoid becoming a popularity contest is increased visibility.

The more of the forum sees it the more impartial voters you will get. I only found this thread when I stumbled upon a facebook post asking for votes.

Does not compute

Making it a sticky would help visibility though.

Thanks for your support. Just wanted to make one quick comment that as I said in my CV, the things I listed/discussed were a few of the main things that came to mind but of course I would certainly also consider any other comments and suggestions about things I haven't mentioned already from community members if I were selected. I can't speak for others but I assume and hope this is the same for the other candidates too.

Re: PokerStars/2+2-users: October 2012 Meeting: VOTING thread

I voted for Alex, he has a good mathematical background which is a must for anyone who is attending the meetings. He attended the meetings in April so knows better than anyone what to expect and how to approach things while there.

He is the only person to have gone and put themselves up again to go twice, I think this shows he's not just in it for the pizza and actually has some kind of commitment here, while I have doubts about everyone else. He is quite well rounded having played 1/2 and 2/4 cash both PLO and NLH as well as SNG and a number of tournaments.

If you really aren't sure who to vote for I think Alex is the safest person to go with. I personally feel he is the best person to represent the needs of everyone and not just a select few SNE.

Re: PokerStars/2+2-users: October 2012 Meeting: VOTING thread

Afaik Alex and I are the only ones who are intending for going for SNE. Since you have already covered why you think he is a good candidate, that leaves me so I will just make it clear, again, that I don't have any intentions of pushing for any increases in the rewards only SNE get, or a decrease in rake in the games I'm personally playing. Almost all of the main priorities I'd be aiming to discuss for as of now would have no direct benefit for me personally at all (I guess except maybe getting rid of the short stackers). I'm obviously not saying I'd be a bad candidate to represent SNE players, but I can assure you I am looking to represent the community and not myself or SNE players.

I know you didn't direct name me but since I was the only person other than Alex that is going for SNE I felt it was necessary to comment. Oh, and as far as this whole vacation thing goes, I'm expecting this to be a good experience but first and foremost by far more hard work than any fun or a free vacation. In fact Alex himself told me in person when I visited him earlier this year how much time and work was involved in last times meetings, I've done plenty/enough recreational travel this year already and I can promise you I have no interest in taking a few days off my tight schedule to do hard work, research/preparation and attend to meetings merely for a 'free trip' overseas and some free food

SNE is at the bottom of my list.

Like I said in the discussion thread, I am most concerned about the health of the poker economy which means I'm looking out for recreational players. I don't think bumhunting should be as rampant as it is, I think the high stakes games need to be more protected, and I think the fact that the VIP system goes from 7500 to 100k is unfair. I play HSMTTs, have been grinding all year, and have 170k VPPs. A SSMTTer can probably barely make supernova and I can't even imagine how tiny the rewards are for micro cash/sng/mtt players are.

There's a lot of little things and ideas that I want to mention as well, but primarily I want to go over and see what data they have and discuss how they can use it to improve the strength of the poker economy.

Re: PokerStars/2+2-users: October 2012 Meeting: VOTING thread

Claydol, when I said SNE I actually meant to say SN. I always do that for some reason. Not that it matters that much, what I said was directed at everyone not just you, meaning both SN & SNE, anyone who is a top tier minority which usually means every single person going. So it's a case of who is the best of a bad bunch lol. I didn't vote at all last time in April but I think this time it's worth putting in one.

Yeah I realise that and assumed you meant SNE as a general group of player type not specifically me, but still wanted to write that to hopefully clear some doubts. Anyway fair enough I definitely understand your concerns and can of course see why non SN+ players are sceptical that (mostly) high volume players are applying.

It seems really important that there is some continuity from the previous meetings so that person can build on previous discussion and aid the other two reps in knowing exactly what to expect and the best way to argue for what players want.

I voted for Alex, not only because he went before but because he has a great head for stats/logic and understands what can and cannot be achieved, and how to do it.

Re: PokerStars/2+2-users: October 2012 Meeting: VOTING thread

I think it is fairly well known that money floats uphill in poker.

Bettering the games at lower levels should be priority number one for high volume players and low volume players alike.

There are some tweaks that could be made that might be beneficial to stars and players alike for higher volume grinders like a new 500k vpp status or something like that. But the overall topics should imo, be based around improving the games from the ground up.

Yes I agree with this and most of my efforts are centered around how to improve rec player turnout and experiences.

Also I think it is worth pointing out that any endorsements of me are unsolicited, I have never met him or talked to Cocteau before, and Jackal I've only talked to briefly.

Finally I am planning to get SNE (I have ~700k vpp) but I don't think it is relevant.

Ironic at all that one of the players in that list was recently banned from 2+2?

I agree with this. I haven't voted yet, I'm going to give it another day, but I think I'm leaning towards Alex because of his qualifications and the fact that he has already been there before and has a better understanding of how things will go down at the IOM which can help to get the other reps more up to speed ahead of time and make better use of the limited time.

I was at the March meeting, and the time in the meetings went by fast. The other players that attended ( I won't say reps here because we were all invited by SteveD for this one and were not voted) had some good ideas, but we would have got through more topics if we had all got together over skype prior to the meetings to get on the same page.

Regardless of who goes, I can't stress the importance of doing this. You can be sure that Stars will have some very polished presentations put together well in advance for you guys. You should do the same. I wish we had back in March, but hindsight is always 20/20. If Alex doesn't get elected to go, I hope he can work with the reps who do go over Skype or email or google docs or something.

I would like to offer my help in anyway I can as well. There are also a lot of great minds in 2+2 who do not want to go but should like Do it Right for example. You're a smart guy and an asset to this community. I can see you're quite jaded wrt to these meetings, but I think you are setting your expectations a little high. Given your smarts, I'm sure you could help a lot with putting some ideas together that could sway Stars into making some good changes, however small, that could be for the betterment of the game.

Some kind of rewards for the lower VIP recreational players could help, for example a monthly reload bonus;

BronzeStar: 100% Reload up to 25$
SilverStar: 75% Reload up to 50$
GoldStar: 50% Reload up to 100$

Those are random numbers obviously but you get the idea.

---

I don't know about the rest of cash game players but I couldn't care less about freerolls.

Promos to bring more players to cash games, im not sure what exactly but Happy Hours daily is better than nothing.

---

Incentive to start tables, like double VPPs for the first X hands or something.

I completely agree and have said as much in my CV post. I have all the time in the world free between now and the meetings and if I am elected to go I swear nobody will be able to work harder than I will at preparing for them.

As others said, the people selected who go definitely should prepare as much as possible, including talking with some previous rep/s to get a better idea of how we should prepare in terms of arguments, plans etc. I've said it many times before but I'd certainly work really hard to prepare and research if selected.
