This will prevent the sensitive topics from being indexed by google. It's a simple solution, no side-effects and potentially could keep processors alive longer.

It might also cut down the interminable threads from new posters telling us how online poker is rigged or how they've had their account locked because of something their ex-roommate did.

Or is that just wishful thinking?

The IG subforum not being visible to general public won't change anything.

maybe explain in more detail...sounds like some politician idea that sounds good on paper but doesn't do anything. I'm pretty sure anyone who wants to find out some info on internet poker for the purpose of shutting it down will easily be able to do so by simply making an account here or another poker forum...I wouldn't be surprised if there are people from the opposition reading this as we speak

You don't need to make a forum private to prevent Google from indexing it (robots.txt).

Well, there is a side effect...less 2+2 pages showing up on Google. This might not make ownership happy.

Yes, it is just wishful thinking, unless OP intended some further level of registration. Those posters already have to register to make those posts.

CMIIW, but even if 2+2 didn't exist they'd still figure stuff out. I'm pretty sure the DOJ's main method of investigation isn't to google the target. Who gives a **** if FoF monitors this forum? You really think that things get shut down b/c someone at FoF told someone in the DOJ the name behind the cash pickup option? I most certainly do not.

It doesn't have to be the DOJ...FoF(for example but could be almost anybody) can just make calls to banks or other financial institutions...Even if the "banks" are "on board" or just ignoring the gaming transactions they do not want the publicity...

Search for posts in the "ZOO" by "Skallagrim" , "Lost it" and "self made" for very well worded opinion on the naming names topic...Reading the ZIPPAYMENT and JBL complaints will also be helpful..

Google searches can be blocked without making this forum private by inserting specific code into page, which can be done specifically for this subforum. Also, anyone that is in a position to do anything about internet gambling already knows about this place, so doing that won't make one bit of difference

i honestly don't think that the 2p2 forums have anything to do with processors being shut down.

however its certainly possible that i am wrong. i think the easy solution is to have mods dedicated to watching threads about payments and XXXXX anything that tips a processors information. also they can keep the threads centralized AND have summary's every few pages so people dont ask the same question 100 times just because the thread is ten 100 posts pages deep.

fwiw i think the main reason for all the FTP issues is just FTP has a crappy payment department. stars has the same hurdles to jump as FTP and people talk about stars payment processors just as much. they are just a LOT better at responding to crisis that stars.

If this is the case then I guess it really doesn't matter either way...

I have zero. I was just speculating. If anyone did have accurate info. as to why it showed up and suddenly disappeared, I'd love to hear it though...

The point being I guess, that if Treasury wants to get information, it knows how .... like register undercover for a forum, call an online gaming company and ask, et cetera .... ?

Posters who do not want to bother to read those documents might nevertheless be interested to know that both investigations arose PRIOR to the UIGEA passing.

I've always felt that the notion that stuff posted here is going to have an impact on eprocessors is silly, at best. Do you really think that the government, with trillions of $$ of resources at its disposal, has difficulty finding this stuff out six months prior to anyone here knowing about it? Give me a break.
