If you don't want to verify on coinbase I have a simple solution for you...don't use their service!!!
You have no right to use their service without following their terms.
Sorry, I think perhaps I didn't explain this clearly enough.
If your argument was 'why use bitcoin?', then the answer could be 'because spouse or credit analyst will see card payments'.
If your argument was 'why not verify?', the answer could be 'identity theft.'
If you believe they will sell your info to 3rd parties, then you can add 'credit analyst', to the 'why not verify?' list.
If you have to give your ID to multiple companies then there are multiple points of failure, where it can get stolen and you become a victim of fraud.
Some people don't want to give up their private data to the likes of Facebook/Cambridge Analytica or Coinbase.
Do you know which 3rd party they will share it with? No because they will sell it to Cambridge Analytica (or similar) without your consent and without telling you.
A lot of people are scared of even just using their credit card online. They don't want to be a victim of fraud. This is understandable.
Now imagine going out to a coffee shop, you buy a cup of coffee or a bar of chocolate with cash, and the barista says: 'now show me your passport'. Ridiculous right?
Also I don't think I've ever had to show ID at a bureau de change using cash, when changing one currency into another currency.
But even if you disregard/disagree with all that - think about this:
Bitcoin is a permanent ledger of transactions - no criminal in their right mind would ever use it. It would be a stupid thing to do. Every transaction is a public record, that anyone can see, it is not anonymous.
