I received an email this morning that states recent changes to coinbase, such as a higher trading limit, etc. The thing is that it now states that ALL sending and receiving of cryptocurrency will be locked on accounts if they do not verify their identity with photo ID.

What is going on here? They most certainly know their customers don't want any part of that whatsoever.

Who do we use now that Coinbase is dead?

- If you call customer support, they cannot (will not) discuss or even refer to this change. They will only allow you to read the faq online.

Excellent. It's about time. I advise to get in early, before it get's jammed up again and you're forced to wait weeks for a simple ID verification.

Why would you think this is a good thing?

I'm not hurrying up at all. I won't give them my photo ID under any circumstances lol. I'll just withdraw via another method now.

Good for you

Try Bisq or localbitcoins.
Use you own desktop wallet to send & receive.

Thanks. Still legitimately curious as to why any player would think this is a good thing. (??) It hurts Coinbase more than it hurts us as we'll just go elsewhere and so will a lot of their other customers. As I already stated, they absolutely know their customers don't want this. Just on principle, it's time to use another site.

Drop Coinbase. Support is so bad they aren’t worth giving their business too.

You can buy and sell / withdraw BTC on cashapp.
I highly recommend that or Gemini before you give a cent to Coinbase.

So, basically, once I find a BTC replacement I can just use the same process of depositing by going from BTC wallet --> Blockchain --> site and backwards for withdrawals?

Exactly

I buy from cashapp , withdraw to my block chain wallet and send to whomever.

Reverse it for cashouts

Why are people against having to verify your identity with a reputable currency trader like Coinbase? I verified all my stuff BEFORE setting up an account and using bitcoin to fund poker with. Took all of about 5 mins and I think its nice knowing that a company requires certain security parameters be met before they send thousands of dollars off to a bank account. Unless you have something shady to hide or are using another persons bank info or stuff like that, then I could see why you would not like this change. Also since I am not playing on ACR or online really for that matter, I think its time to say that all that "BTC wallet > Blockchain > Site" and vice versa was a bunch of crap. I directly sent numerous bitcoin transactions straight from coinbase to ACR and cashed out almost 10K in profit this year and never had a hiccup or question from Coinbase or my credit union. Just sayin...

I thought coinbase was great until they banned me. It looks like Gemini charges 1% fees even as a maker? Why would anyone want to do that when they have coinbase as an option?

Coinbase doesn't cater to poker players. They are a licensed and regulated financial service provider. Asking for ID verification seems pretty standard and logical.

Unless you are trying to not pay taxes or doing some other dodgy **** I don't see why anyone would think it's that big of a deal.

If you don't like it sell poker funds here or find another way to sell BTC.

That may be so, but others had their Coinbase accounts closed, when it was determined they were sending/receiving funds from a gambling site per UIGEA.

Because Coinbase support is the nut low. Seriously. Hands down the worst customer support I’ve ever experienced. Months to respond to emails. Literally months. And then they are clueless with what they said or asked for. I had 4
Diff reps tell me 4 different things. Was losing my mind dealing with them. They asked for documentation which I provided numerous times, then would say I’m ok only to find months later they haven’t done anything.

They hide their phone number , and for obvious reasons. They can’t keep up w the demand. They bought out circle ... and circle was perfect when it was operating. No issues. They also disconnected the call numerous times when I did call in... was not an accident. Absolutely trash.

So yeh I’d rather spend 1% using another service. Again, I use cashapp to buy and sell. Works like a charm.

It doesn't have to be anything sinister or illegal. You might have a joint bank acount with your spouse, who doesn't approve of 'gambling', you might want to get a mortgage but you don't want a bad credit report for 'gambling'. Or maybe you just don't want your identity stolen? etc.
Cash money is more anonymous than bitcoin, but you don't auto-assume that any use of hard cash is dodgy, do you? That would be an odd assumption, right?

Fair enough... I would rather tolerate their crap and keep the 1%. What kind of fees do you pay on cashapp?

Per their website

“You are not charged a conversion fee, or any other fees, to buy or sell Bitcoin through the Cash App.”

Easiest app to use via mobile. 5 Stars

You can dislike Coinbase for reasons such as CarlTrooper mentions. I'm not trying to say that Coinbase is wonderful in any way. But if you think they're going to miss a few poker players, ..or other randoms who refuse to verify their identity, you're terribly mistaken.

There is no reason that their customers wouldn't want this, as they're simply complying with laws and regulations, you would prefer that the site handling your money was operating illegally? And it's odd that you would mention principle as a reason to for them to do illegal financial transactions.

Square cashapp requires you to verify ID for bitcoin transactions. Looks pretty neat and easy to use. 1-2 days verify.
Probably easier than messing around with bitcoin exchanges.
You might be able to use cash only transfers without ID up to $250/week, according to the FAQ.
I would check out bisq.network : no ID required, Tor hidden service, no central server or databases to record data, data encrypted.

Use your own private wallet: "Your keys, your bitcoin. Not your keys, not your bitcoin"
