Hi All,
We are very happy to have our first official 2+2 Poker thread! It has been a long ride for us to get here, but we're excited to bring something fresh and different to the poker community. We want to bring some important core values to the table and community with this thread. We are open to change, your feedback, and hearing things through. We're committed to providing a site with great customer support and an excellent security team.
We aren’t as slick as we should be yet, we aren’t as big as others out there, but we have a lot of ideas in development that should have a positive impact to the online poker community. Your input and feedback are all part of this process and we are open to change down the road.
GreySnowPoker is named in honour of the ‘Bah Kho-Je’ (the People of the Grey Snow); the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma. Our first contribution to changing the culture of online poker is what we call ‘FairPlay’. It’s our core philosophy in creating more sustainable and transparent gaming for the community.
FairPlay Policy #1: Seating
The FairPlay Lobby prevents the use of seating scripts (the player pool cannot be previewed) and automatically seats players. Our system also makes hit-n-running a bad proposition for the Hit-n-Runner (more on that below).
FairPlay Policy #2: Fees
The FairPlay Service Fee is by far the most radical policy we’ve (literally) brought to the table: no more pay-per-hand rake. GreySnowPoker makes money by charging a 3% service-fee when you leave the table, no matter how much you sat down with. Leave with 2$ and pay 6 cents. Leave with 200$ and pay 6$.
We’re aware that this has the risk of feeling like a tax on winning (in many ways, it is). But consider the advantages:
• Micro stake games suddenly become beatable
• No urgency to beat-the-rake in shorthanded games (if humans can unlock the key to immortality, heads up can literally last forever without anybody rebuying)
• Loose play (the kind most recreational players enjoy) doesn’t result in paying more rake
• No less-than-double-up double-ups (it tilts casual players to double up with a full stack only to stare at 194 bb’s, or whatever is left after rake has been paid)
• Everybody has an incentive to play longer
And “everybody has an incentive to play longer” is the flip side of the way we discourage Hit-n-Running: somebody playing a long session only pays the FP Service Fee once, (when they leave the tables). Somebody Hit-n-Running multiple victims pays the service fee each and every time they disappear.
FairPlay Policy #3: Loyalty
GreySnowPoker's loyalty program is simple, generous, and non-hierarchical. We give back 1% of each player’s total buyin at the table. We also have a matching deposit bonus for up to $1,000 that does not expire – it’s released in increments and is relatively simple to clear.
In November we launched our first phase of guaranteed tournaments and daily freerolls. There have been significant overlays in our tournaments and we are looking to roll out our second phase of tournaments and freerolls in December.
I’m sure there will be a lot of questions and feedback, especially about our Fair Play Service Fee policy. Please don’t be shy. And once you give us a try, let us know what you think about GreySnowPoker’s debut.
