Aleksandr “EvnomiYa” Mordinov Wins $1,050 Whale for Second Time in Two Months
The biggest buy-in of the weekend, the $1,050 Whale, drew 72 players who accounted for 32 rebuys. That surpassed to $100K GTD by created a prize pool of $104K, which was paid out to the final table.
Among those to cash were “INEEDPANTS” (8th - $4,160), “Kannwas” (6th - $5,720), “SHIPITBITCH” (4th - $10,400), and “KellerA” (3rd - $15,600). After 8 hours and 29 minutes, Russia’s Aleksandr “EvnomiYa” Mordinov bested the UK’s “FatSTackY0” to win the title and $31,200 top prize.
It marked the second time this year Mordinov has won The Whale after taking the title on June 25th for $35,250. It’s also worth mentioning that earlier this week, Mordinov finished third in the Wednesday $12,000 Crocodile for $1,700.
UK’s “icallyamet” Takes Down the Mega Deep
This week’s $215 buy-in Mega Deep offered up an $80,000 prize pool after 377 players took to the virtual felt. Among the 48 to get paid were “floatmasta” (42nd - $384), “sajtgul” (21st - $776), “Flowfather” (13th - $1,080), “THEPWNER” (5th - $4,200), and “QuibeDoNeto” (3rd - $8,600).
It took 10 hours and 19 minute before the UK’s “icallyamet” beat out Austria’s “sally_os” to take the title and $15,400 in prize money. Just five days earlier, “icallyamet” won the $8,000 Swordfish for $1,617, and before thaton August 10th he finished runner-up in the Late Night Crocodile for $2,785.
“ILoveToPay” Adds Crocodile Title to Poker Résumé
The $160 buy-in, $25,000 Sunday Crocodile attracted 149 runners, and of those 27 got paid including Emil “Ejsenhoven1” Ohlsson (13th - $375), Cristian “progree69” Sampaoli (12th - $437.50), “Jupp_shippts” (5th - $1,500), and “KoppyAA” (3rd -$2,937.50).
After a little over eight hours, Russia’s “ILoveToPay” prevailed over “Jefffryyy” to win $5,375. It was another accomplishment on “ILoveToPay’s” poker résumé after he won both the March 16th Lightning for $3,243 and the June 10th Octopus for $5,375.
“saiyajin1337” Catches Lightning in a Bottle
The $109 buy-in, $20,000 GTD Sunday Lightning attracted 129 players who generated 75 rebuys. That created a $20,400 prize pool distributed to the top 18 players including Emil “Ejsenhoven1” Ohlsson (17th - $265.20), “Mr. Fonzi” (12th - $438.60), “alexxabest” (6th - $918), and Michael “AcesJoker88” Acevedo (4th - $1,734).
After “WAFAL” fell in third, Argentina’s “wklix” and Austria’s “saiyajin1337” battled it out for the $5,304 first-place prize. After 8 hours and 54 minutes, the Austrian came out on top to claim the title. Back on April 23, “saiyajin1337” topped a field of 323 players to win the Mega Deep for $23,575.
“Ezreaal” Claims Breeze Title for Lithuania
The $55 buy-in, $15,000 Sunday Breeze drew 372 players, and that created a prize pool of $18,600. Among the 54 players to earn a piece of it were Lightning champ “saiyajin1337” (54th - $93), “lyonsden6” (29th - $111.60), “Billy_Slater” (9th - $308.76),”HAPPYPOKER44” (4th - $1,488), and “IsaakidiAA” (3rd - $1,953).
After 7 hours and 43 minutes, Lithuania’s “Ezreaal” defeated Vietnam’s “TankeVicius” in heads-up play to win $3,569.34.
What to watch out for:
We’re guaranteeing $8 million in prizes for the upcoming XL Eclipse online tournament series, which will run September 10-24. That’s $500,000 more in GTD prize money than was offered in the spring’s XL Inferno.
