Welcome to 888poker’s Weekly Deal, with all the best news, results and insights from the past week.
THIS WEEK: January 14, 2017
The Netherlands’ “tmurdaha” Wins Mega Deep
The latest $215 buy-in Sunday Mega Deep on 888poker, which featured a $100K GTD, drew 395 players who rebought 127 times. That created a $104,400 prize pool that was distributed to the top 56 players.
Among those to claim a piece of it were Niklas “tutten7” Åstedt (29th - $699.48), Fabrizio “DrMiKee” Gonzalez (18th - $1,012.68), Kenny “SpaceyFCB” Hallaert (12th - $1,701.72), Super XL chamap “_rudinhos_” (6th - $3,654), and “OINKOinkOink” (3r - $10,962).
After 11 hours and 15 minutes, the title came down to the UK’s “BigPIDG” and the Netherlands’ “tmurdah.” In the end, the latter prevailed to win the $19,836 top prize. Back on September 26, you might recall “tmurdah” won the $12,000 Crocodile for $3,465.
Vintage Mega Deep Champ “Mowlschbazd” Wins GREAT 8 Title
This week’s $88 buy-in, $40,000 GTD GREAT 8 attracted 402 players who rebought 159 times. That generated a $44,880 prize pool that was paid out to the top 56 spots including “Ezreaal” (32nd - $300.69), “Nemekiss” (18th - $435.33), and final table bubble “Yzw42_”.
Some familiar faces at the final table were “CasinoPro888” (7th - $1,122), “Gagagawa” (4th - $3,366), and “EyeofSkadi” (3rd - $4,712.40). After 9 hours and 11 minutes, Germany’s “Mowlschbazd” bested the UK’s “BadModafoka1” to capture an $8,527.20 first-place prize.
We don’t hear much from “Mowlschbazd” these days, but way back in October 2013, he outlasted a field of 601 players to take down the $120,000 Mega Deep for $32,015.
Argentina’s Joaquin “JoaquinRuiz” Ruiz is Up for the Challenge
The $109 buy-in, $50K GTD Sunday Challenge brought 427 players to the virtual felt. They accounted for 179 rebuys, which saw the prize pool grow to $60,600. Among the 56 players to cash were “ZDamian” (36th - $333.30), Robin “Inho” Ylitalo (27th - $406.02), “SteveyBG” (15th - $781.74), “vanPingelen” (8th - $1,212), and “s3c3_1978” (3rd - $6,363).
In the heads-up match, Sweden’s Andreas “KURDEdersim” Samuelsson held a big chip lead over Argentina’s Joaquin “JoaquinRuiz” Ruiz. However, the Argentinean managed to double, take the chip lead, and complete the comeback after 9 hours and 31 minutes. Samuelsson padded his bankroll by $8,484, while Ruiz laid claim to the $11,514 first-place prize.
A couple years ago, Ruiz won the $10,000 Monsoon for $1,905, while in the live realm he’s amassed $175,889 in earnings. That includes a career-high $147,773 for finishing third in the 2014 BSSOP Sao Paulo Main Event.
Sebastian “p000cket000” Sikorski Wins Turbo Mega Deep in 255 Minutes
It only took 4 hours and 15 minutes for this week’s $215 buy-in, $15K GTD Turbo Mega Deep, which crushed its guarantee by drawing 81 players who rebought 34 times. That created a $23K prize pool paid out to the top 12 places. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were “TopBeaver69” (12th), “Nemekiss” (11th), and “Ramster14” (10th), each cashing for $632.50.
Among the players to make the final table were “CalmRevolver” (9th - $632.50), Andreas “KURDEdersim” Samuelsson (7th - $977.50), “plomaha” (4th - $2,185), and “TomBrady17” (3rd - $3,220). In the end, Canada’s Sebastian “p000cket000” Sikorski defeated Brazil’s “keyhell” to claim the title and $6,267.50 first-place prize.
Back on December 14, Sikorski won the $15,000 GREAT 8 for $3,514, and back in December he took down the XL Eclipse Event #13: $50,000 Turbo Mega Deep for $10,648.
“CoinShipper” Finds Redemption with Monsoon Win
The $55 buy-in Sunday Monsoon boasted a $15K GTD, but that was easily surpassed as 295 players rebought 66 times to create an $18,050 prize pool. The top 45 got paid including “8tama8” (31st - $117.32), “Kamooooon” (15th - $225.62), and “abmarin” (10th - $270.75).
Five players at the final table earned four-figure scores including “MommyTosier” (5th - $1,028.85), “YoureMagical” (4th - $1,489.12), and “root4deuces” (3rd - $1,985.50). After 7 hours and 9 minutes, the UK’s “summuNNN” fell to Russia’s “CoinShipper,” giving them $2,617.25 and $3,492.67 in prize money respectively.
It was a bit of redemption for “CoinShipper,” who last January finished runner-up in the $15,000 Crocodile for $4,440 and then in September placed second in the XL Eclipse Event #99: $45,000 Sunday Monsoon for $6,956.
