wow relax guy, i never said it was a bad thing. confirms what i said about you guys needing better mmj though...

Question,

I live in Philly, would I be able to drive over to Camden and play at a McDonald's/coffee shop or something? Commuting to play online poker... now that's funny.

Only way I'll play online poker is if I can play on Rational Group's sites.... That is part of the reason i make my trips to canada but NJ would be so much easier.

They are unparalleled in customer service, reliability, player pool, quality of games, and software

I'm hoping so. I want to put up some internet cafes with high speed net along the union city , JC , Hoboken border so people from the city can come in and play on the cheap.

Cool idea. Like a Starbucks with an area for grind stations. Keep the coffee coming!

I hope that all the people who grind the NYC underground cash games play on PartyPoker cash when it comes in November

I'm currently in Mexico playing online, can't believe in about a month I can play from my home state.

And no, NJ is not gross...those saying that have probably only been on the turnpike driving through. It has really nice parks and beaches - even close to AC (Margate, Ventnor..etc)

I'm a NJ resident who plays live poker five nights a week. I'm looking forward to online poker returning, mainly so the online players will stop coming to the B & M card rooms and ruining the games.

That said, I'm sure I'll make a deposit at one of the A.C. casinos. The question is, which one? If I deposit at the Taj Mahal, does that mean I will only be playing against the other players who also deposited at the Taj? If I'm understanding correctly, each A.C. casino is partnering with a different provider, further segregating the already small player pool. Have you seen these casinos' poker rooms on a week night in A.C? Aside from The Borgata, they're ghost towns. And Borgata has partnered with bwin.party, which is, in my understanding, not the best platform. I can't imagine these games being very good, and anyone who plans to move to NJ to play online is going to find it very difficult, IMO.

i don't see why that would be a problem since you only need to be physically in NJ to play. im just hoping i can find a place i can get to where i can pick up a xfinitywifi signal in jersey.

You can reside anywhere but need to physically in NJ to sign in/play.

The picture looks like 8 separate sites-too many in my opinion but what do I know.

Only 2 sites are licensed as of 9AM, Thursday morning. Maybe some of the 6 may not get licensing. I think they all will. NJ wants this to work, so everyone gets licensed, discipline to follow as needed.

Legal sites with advertising and secure funds I think will be a big success.
How so many sites are supposed to run tourneys at apx the same hours alludes me but time will see.

Until compacts are made it won't be a poker captial. It really comes down to that but given they will have the regulatory body already in place as other states legalize going through New Jersey would be a great option and this would mean combined player pools.

hopefully international will get pushed down the line but I can't see that happening before a few states combine liquidity.

4 Casinos now have licenses with probably another 4 or 5 to go. With so many getting licenses/planning to get licenses one has to wonder if they are planning to become the online capital down the road after all.

True. It can only be considered a potential capitol. Much has to go right for the dream to be realized. Yet, it is a legitimate possibility. Perhaps a joint venture in addition to running individual online rooms where player pools can be combined for larger tournaments and qualifiers. The best option would be a joint venture using the Pokerstars client combined with multi-state compacts.

It really makes no sense for the limited player base to have 15 suitors and 15 different inadequate liquidity pools.

Still an exciting time though. It's fascinating to project where this might go.

I believe Harrahs, Caesars, Showboat & Baileys all have the same affiliate. Will their virtual poker lobbys be combined?

Proximity to everything within a short drive. Employment, recreation, culture, transportation. Excellent range of lifestyles, from urban to rural and everything in between - and all located within 2 hours of New York City, and much of it within one hour. Excellent range of people to mix with and enjoy - rich, poor, every culture, every lifestyle. And with the advent and eventual maturing of an online poker industry, a tremendous potential of live and online play. If it works out like it should, you could pick a beautiful spot to live, grind online, and yet be located 90 minutes from the Atlantic City casinos, where I am sure online + B&M synergies will lead to lots of live tournaments and their associated cash games. Yet you are within a short distance to the employment opportunities of northern NJ and Manhattan, should that become necessary. And you are close to an endless selection of amazing clubs, restaurants, cultural and educational institutions, and all the rest of the accoutrements and ancillaries provided by the Capitol of the World. Exciting weather, with 4 distinct seasons and all possibilities from blizzards to tropical heat. New Jersey is a really fun place to live.

Some people point out crime and expense. Crime is a problem in the slums. And the slums are very small, very isolated, and easily identifiable and avoidable. Most of New Jersey has very little crime. And expensive is relative. It's similar to other areas within a stone's throw of a vibrant city.

Consider yourself enlightened.

/Agree- Crime is relatively nonexistent in the suburbs, however, cost of living has been going up steadily at a slightly higher rate to comparable locations near other metropolitan areas (property taxes etc). The company I work for actually pays the highest location premium to residents of NJ nationwide, other than NYC.

NJ really has a lot going for it- Incredible proximity to Philly/NYC anywhere in the state, beautiful beaches, parks, protected forests/wetlands. Amazing diversity of restaurants and shopping...There is always something to do.

NJ definitely has some areas to avoid: Camden, Newark etc...But overall I'd say 80-90% of the cities/towns in the state are good/excellent places to live.
Most people that think "NJ Sucks" have either never lived here or just flat out couldn't afford to live here. It can be expensive but its all relative.

Also don't forget that NJ is also the home of the NY Giants. Coming from a NYer, I kind of think of NJ as an extension of NY and vice versa. It's weird, but I almost think of them as the same state.

It all sounds plausible, except of course:

Well, it's the biggest and most diverse and most dynamic city in the country that has provided the best example to the world of how to live properly and successfully. So insofar as any city can make the claim to be the Capitol of the World, New York makes a strong case for being that city.

And if it's not, it will do until the Capitol gets here.

Where else have you lived? And what makes you think a city in a country that outlaws online poker, has the highest incarceration rate in the developed world by far, has been the driving forth behind an endless line of despotic and repressive regimes worldwide, and has some of the most draconian/ridiculous drug laws in the world is in 'the free world'? I'm an American, and though there are a great many things I do like about visiting the US, I far prefer living here in Prague (or Budapest, anywhere coastal in Brazil, Paris, etc.) to living in the US for this very reason.

It's because it is literally the same exact state, except NJ has better casinos as far as poker goes, and NY's casinos are way upstate. There's nothing NY has that NJ doesn't.
