Ive made prob 15-20 check deposits in the last year without any issue, this is the only time this has happened. Noticed this has happened to some other people recently as well. Anyone know whats going on?
It has been commented on before ITT that the issue seems to arise from a teller or whoever not realizing that there is a difference in an international check drawn on/written to US funds versus one that is not. I believe there is something to this because once I received my check, I called the bank listed on it, to inquire about how to best receive the funds from US banks. I didn't mention what the check was for or anything, just asked in general about how to best obtain the funds from a check written from an account in their bank, in the US. Long story short, I was told to just deposit the check in an existing US bank account and that since the check is already written in US dollars, the transfer of funds shouldn't take more than a few days.
So I guess whenever someone at the bank talks about sending a check to collections because it's international, make sure to mention that the check is written to US dollars.
