This might be a tad off topic but I think it still applies here. I noticed when I updated the Paypal mobile app that they have a check scan option for deposit via your smartphone camera. Do you think this could be a good way to deposit these checks?

Sounds too good to be true, so it probably won't work, but I'm rooting for it

I think it depends on which check processor is used by Carbon. From what I can tell some of the processors use the same number of digits for the RTA and some don't.

If the RTA is incorrect, the ATM will reject it.

The teller at my bank had some type of scanner that will read the RTA and account number. The scanner has rejected a couple of the checks and the teller had to recode them so they would be processed correctly. For me it was worth it to wait the extra 5 minutes to wait for a teller.

Anyone have a check from Carbon bounce? I made a withdrawal 4 weeks ago, received a check about 2 weeks ago and deposited it but the bank sent it back saying "refer to sender." I informed Carbon but haven't gotten any more information for 2 weeks while they check with their processor. This happen to anyone else?

This is what you should be concerned about, imho, rather than getting the money.
They have the money.
Getting it through a US bank has been a problem for years. Seems like a s--- batch / processor problems.
