It's actually very simple to calculate new rake for any given set of hands. All you need is HM1 database (HM2 & PT will work too, but you'll need to change sql query).

Go to pgAdmin and execute: "select numberofplayers, (potsize + rakeamount), rakeamount from pokerhands where handtimestamp > '2011-10-1' and rakeamount > 0 and gametype_id = 71 limit 10000;". Choose your own handtimestamp if you want and also find gametype_id for your main game and change it in the query (mine main game is $2/$4 6max PLO) — primary goal of it is to filter euro hands.

Then put results in a Numbers spreadsheet (http://www.sendspace.com/file/khk7gt) and change rake cap by players in it for your limit. You'll get total old rake, total new rake and ratio.

For 10k raked hands of $2/$4 6max PLO:
— old rake = $20409.30
— new rake = $21595.27
— ratio =1.0581

So, it's an 5.81% increase in total rake taken from the game. Please calculate and post results for other games and stakes.

No it is just him (and you) not thinking far enough.
And he doesn't know what everyone think for that matter either...
And yes a fraction of the fish will increase one vip level.
But still. The FPP multiplier goes from 3.5:1 to 3.5:1.5.
The difference is still way to big even if we don't consider that some regs also will be losing a VIP level which would again reduce the total rakeback paid out.

not sure whether i agree with this action or not, but there is something very important you guys should know, that ultimately might screw this whole plan up.

stars can kick players off tables for sitting out - they already do this at highstakes where sitting out when fish aren't playing is more problematic.

http://www.pokerstars.co.uk/poker/rules/ring-games/#6

above link saying that players can't keep sitting out, although doesn't discuss punishments or methods of dealing with it.

see this thread for information:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/19...-games-939587/

they have stars employees monitoring the tables and take action against frequent abusers - in fact two players got banned from pokerstars for it (scout326, grt35a). judging from their responses so far, i would expect players to be at first warned, and then have their "privileges" (i.e. ability to play) temporarily suspended, and if it STILL continues then you could be banned from stars.

while they haven't always been on the ball in stopping bumhunters as above (not monitoring the tables often enough), i think they will be a little more proactive in stopping people sitting out to "occupy" the tables.

Which is why this should already be underway.

However, I think a sit out would most likely not be effective anyway. The only thing that is going to work is not playing on the site at all, and then only if the value of those players in lost rake to the site is greater than the gains of the new system, with possibly a small amount factored I'm for the effects of negative pr (maybe).

One assumes that Stars have doen their sums so unless the lost rake is greater than they anticipate, there will likely be no further changes.

Just need to get some sort of respectable representatives for poker players' rights to form some sort of union, get a bunch of signatures/screen names under a list of 'demands'/changes we want and send them to stars with the message that we'll be negotiating with other sites to get those things if they don't atleast negotiate with us.

The threat of a few million $ of rake leaving the site is pretty much the only thing they're ever going to listen to.

Maybe it wont work.
Only the French are stubborn enough to pull this off (they did when pokerstars.fr opened!). Because PS cannot ban everywhone.
I would assume ROW (including US) besides France doesn't really have balls to go through with this.

Before I never really liked france since they are so damn stubborn with their language thinking it should be the worlds language. But with this I am actually impressed with them!

I misunderstood the meaning of the sit-out. I was thinking boycott, but now I get it. I know that if you sit out too long you do get thrown off the table. I think it is 3 orbits - not sure exactly.

But since stars is obviously not all that bothered about pissing the high volume player (and thus their seemingly most valued customer) off, they will also probably not worry about making some examples. Like banning, maybe not even a warning first, since it can probably be deemed a breach of TOS. They know that will reach the forums and probably scare the rest of the community.

Is there a stars rep here anywhere in the forum?

IDK where to go if not stars, and they must know that. Yea, a lot of other sites, but stars has what many of us want.

Seems like a good time for other sites to get on the ball. A large player pool to be had with the right marketing. Dont really see it happening, but, who knows.

If FT gets its sht worked out, wow, that would be great timing....

sure. kick people off. and then they leave and take their rake with them. ive already emailed stars and told them im prepared to leave - and as an aussie i have heaps of choices.

fu u stars, this mod is in.

is anyone else doing this at fixed limit tables? I'll be happy to spam tables and be a pest but i cant be a one man army

What we need is a simple and easy thread to reference, perhaps just prior to the sitout we need a targetted thread that the sit-out-ers can reference? agreed?

Thank you all for taking the time to express your opinion about the recently announced changes to ring game rake on PokerStars.com for 2012.

As a direct result of player input, we are cancelling the planned rake changes that were to be implemented in early January 2012. We will still use the incremental method to calculate rake instead of true percentage rake. Rake caps and percentages will remain exactly as they are today.

I would like to add a few comments:

The current rake at PokerStars is the lowest by far among all major poker sites.

We are confident that the planned rake changes would have resulted in a further overall decrease in ring game rake site wide, and a decrease for a majority of players.

There has been much inaccurate information spread about the impact of the changes. As an example, the changes would not have resulted in a 50% increase in rake for 5-handed play. While there would have been an increase in average rake for 5-handed play at NL tables with stakes of $0.25/$0.50 and higher, it would be far less than 50% (for stakes up to $0.10/$0.25 there was either no change or reduction in caps for 5-handed play). Most hands do not reach the cap and thus would not be affected. The rake for many hands dealt to 5 players would actually be lower at many stakes due to the lower rake percentage (4.5% reduced from 5%). If players review rake at other online poker rooms, they will discover that it is the standard for the rake caps to be the same when 5 or more players are dealt into a hand. PokerStars has been the one notable exception to this system.

In summary we still believe that the proposed rake system taken as a whole would result in a more balanced and fair rake system for players. However, given that players have responded so negatively to this change, which also has a cost to PokerStars due to the reduced rake, we felt that the best course of action is to cancel the change.

The change to the Weighted Contributed method of awarding VPPs will remain as announced.
