glad it turned out the way it did but the title is a bit misleading, he wasn't convicted of scamming the poker community, his crime was against the craigslist community mainly. His poker online scams were really there for character establishment. nothing more.
Really think that point needs to be addressed. In other words, your lucky this guy got caught for OTHER things as he happened to scam you.
But nice to see the bad guys lose every once in a while

In the last week, two of our regular alleged serial scammers have asked for the more personal details that they or others have posted over the years to be removed. (One threatens legal action if they're not removed!)

Hopefully, whether or not this particular case was directly linked to poker scams, this is a sign that these alleged thieves have realised there are serious consequences to their illegal actions.

When I was reading the first part of your message I was like...ugh uh oh.... Then I read the second part of your message and I was like, yea!!

Oh an btw there was direct ties to poker scamming, even if they weren't charged they brought a witness and attention of a detective. (not sure what his exact charges were but just sayin)

Regardless, scammers are using more and more fraudulent funds rather then the old school way of just not sending their end and the fraudulent funds are coming more and more from stolen credit cards so they are definitely opening themselves up to more prosecution chances.

On Oct 6th he was sentenced to 3 years in prison followed by 5 years of extended supervision.

During extended supervision:
-not able to possess a computer or the internet without approval
-obtain and maintain full time employment
-pay restitution of ~17k
-comply with all counseling deemed necessary

Stiff/stern punishment. Hopefully this makes scammers think. This stuff doesn't only "happen to other people". There's definitely risk involved.

Prison/jail is pretty much hell on Earth. Many people consider freedom as important as life itself. Many also don't realize how important it is until they've lost it.

Soooooo not worth it, at any odds. One slip up or scam of the wrong guy is all it can take.

Actually, "freedom" is just another word for nothing left to lose.

with the economy in the shape that it's in, it will be next to impossible for him to find someone that will hire him. When he gets out, he will either have to go back to scamming, male prostitution (he would be a pro by the time he gets out) or rise to the top and win a multi million dollar prize in the WSOP. Would make for an awesome comeback story. Could even get a book deal out of it.

2013 WSOP is your year Matthew Matsch. GO GET EM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I checked this the other day out of curiosity and was somewhat surprised by him being one of the top posters in the transfer thread. He was literally all over this site dealing with people and looking for and taking angles to scam.

p2p thread has 5.5 million views and 86k posts. Here's a list of the top posters, with him in it (at the bottom)

I marked the moderators in green. Most of the others trade heavily and/or help police the thread to keep the community safe via trading.

Others of note: romanwarrior (wound up scamming a ton of people and has a huge thread dedicated to it where he works on paying people back, abominable (good guy who helped police and traded heavily, he passed away some time ago), cmoneymaker10 (another user that later was caught in lies/multiaccounting and possible scamming(?) and has a thread detailing it, iirc), and Clamper13 (great guy who helped police the thread and point out scammers, he was originally from tilt traders I think and has been inactive here for some time now)

Guys -- I just found this thread randomly as a Wisconsin lawyer. I did a CCAP search (just google it, WI open records) and there is nothing on CCAP indicating this guy got ANY jail time for his scam. There is no CCAP record.

Now, there are records making clear this guy (Matthew) is a POS and he is a scammer. He was most recently convicted for bad checks.

But unfortunately, unless I am really dumb, he doesn't come up on CCAP as having been convicted as this thread indicates, which is sad. Absolutely no doubt this guy will rob a bank or do something more terrible to defraud more fragile folks in the future.

His CCAP record: http://wcca.wicourts.gov/pager.do;js...Direction=DESC

It appears that the City of West Bend know something of him.
