Is helping a sitting out player by chip dumping in a SNG considered cheating? Is helping a sitting out player by chip dumping in a SNG considered cheating?

Was playing a triple up sit n go on Ignition and there were 4 players left, one was sitting out with only 300 chips left.

Table leader had 7000 chips and me and the other player had 3000 each. Should have been an easy win and taken less than a few minutes but the table leader decided to be a prick and started folding all his small blinds to the player sitting out. If me or the other player placed any kind of bet he would shove. This went on for over an hour and he basically did everything he could to help the sitting out player until the sitting out player had over 3000 chips. Finally the other active player had enough and shoved with his last 900 chips and lost.

This seemed to me it was blatant chip dumping to effect the outcome. Not the end of the world but not only did it waste everyone's time I thought it was a crappy thing to do, not to mention he helped a sitting out player cash. Any thoughts?

I think you wouldn't have posted this if you didn't bubble.

Nah it's more out of curiosity. I thought any intentional actions to benefit another player were against the rules. Pissed me off that I had to sit through an hour of that BS though.

I actually like what he did. Poker is about inflicting pain. Well done table leader.

Assuming the payouts of these triple ups are the same for 1st through 3rd (OP can clarify) then while what he did was lame, its hard to call it collusion, as he is in fact potentially risking his 100% win by doing this as well.

OP also stated this went on for an hour or so, which does make one wonder if the blinds were 1/2 chips or 2/4 chips, so this part of the OP's story did not make a ton of sense. Also, why would a player bet anything other than all-in if you know the big stack is going to 100% shove. Raise/fold/complain seems an odd strategy against that type of opponent.

Other sites you could note the user name to return the gift when possible, but guessing that is not the case here.

Note, if the payoffs differed from 1st to 3rd in some way then what the big stack did is actually fine if one puts money ahead of what some people think is doing the "right thing" when that means they would benefit from their version of said right thing.

I dont see whats wrong here he used the sitting out player as a tool to help his game by keeping that player in he was able to wittle you guys down. as you guys were holding on.

it was well applied strategy. he could effectively have everyone very short stacked and then be an almost cert.

Of course I dont know the exact format but I am guessing what he was doing could have been exploited if you got a decent enough hand. Unless it was a DON in which case he was probably just trolling and good on him for that.

Otherwise all your really doing is blaming someone else for exploiting your sub par play.

What the guy did was of no benefit to himself, but was only of potential harm to the others. When someone is sitting out, they are almost certainly going to be blinded out, and then all three of the remaining players will win. Since it was a triple-up SNG, the prize amounts would be the same for each player, and the big stack simply wanted to string everyone along.

Obviously the other two were just figuring they had an easy win, and therefore saw no benefit in getting involved as long as the shortstack was still around. One of them ended up losing, despite having an almost certain win. The only way this was cheating is if the guy knew the other player and wanted to give him a chance to win. Otherwise, I'd just say he was being a dick.

He could have just been drunk/stoned/bored and thought it'd be a fun game to see how many Chips he could get in a single DON. It's ignition, so the first Thing to do is request a hand history, you see all hole cards. If the guy is raising constantly and constantly has top 10% of hands, and folds to sit out without premiums, not much of case imo. But if he is folded aces to a sit out, iggy might entertain your idea.
I'm not implying his cards really matter at all in this case, but remember, not everyone playing these games thinks about the game th exact same as or at the level as you (applies to literally everyone). Extra information always helps.
