FTP Freezing at login screen after update...I FOUND A SOLUTION!!!!!

Hey guys. I am one of many that was able to play on FTP after the initial update on 7/8/09; however, on 7/9/09 I opened my client and I was prompted to install another udpate, which installed fine (not like some who state they cant even get this installed). The unfortunate thing is that this update completely disabled my client. I would often freeze at the login screen and if I got past that, the client froze just a few seconds later.

I have linked the problem back to a plugin called phonon_ds94.dll. I like computers, but admittedly, I have no clue what this does, maybe something with quicktime?? I was basically frustrated and opened my FTP folder and figured it might be a plugin issue, so I started deleting them one by one and reopened my client each time to see it helped. When I deleted this one, the client worked great!! I need more people to test to make sure this works on others.

I am using a Core Duo 1.66 with 2gig RAM, Intel 945G graphics, and Windows XP SP3. The file is located at C:\Program Files\Full Tilt Poker\plugins\phonon_backend

Here is a screen shot of the file in place and my frozen login screen:

Here you can see the file is removed, and FTP is up and running with a table open with no glitches or freezing.

I tried putting the file back into the folder and the freezing problem comes back, so it is related to this plug in.

I hope this can at least be a temporary fix for those of that couldn't even logon. Please try this and post your feedback!

I am also contacting FTP support with this finding, so hopefully they can address it with some sort of mass update.

I wonder what that plug in is for though. Could it be some kind of security thing?

a multimedia part for audio/video from the Qt-Framework. (Qt != Quicktime. Qt is a Framework like .NET etc.)

Re: FTP Freezing at login screen after update...I FOUND A SOLUTION!!!!!

It's only been about 20 minutes since I posted, so I am sure more will read it soon. I have been playing some small ring games to test and everything seems to be fine so far.

I have forwarded this info via email to FTP and also PM'd FTPDoug, so hopefully this info gets into the right hands of the people at Full Tilt so they can issue some sort of mass fix.

PS It also looks like we were credited 200 FTP points for ironman purposes on 7/8 and 7/9, for those that worried about not being able to play.

Re: FTP Freezing at login screen after update...I FOUND A SOLUTION!!!!!

It seems that has improved the stability since I'm not crashing anymore. Still lagging a little bit and my cashier's window isn't showing up, but it's functioning.

Thx OP.

This is one of the many error messages I received. I uninstalled and reinstalled four times, and haven't received this error message again. Similar file name to OP's fix.

Awesome man, you rule.

FYI I had to actually *delete* it, renaming it didn't work.

Nice work, and lol that you needed to figure this out rather than the monkeys running FTP's development and QA programs.

Yes, delete it completely. I just saved it to a thumb drive in case I needed later.

Perhaps you have some other Qt application loaded that is conflicting with the
phonon_ds94.dll in the FTP directory. Can you do a file search on your entire system for phonon_ds94.dll?

BTW the dll is part of Qt. See link:

When I tried to search on the net, I found stuff related to quick time, so thats why I mentioned its possible connection in my initial post. Not sure of its importance. Maybe its corrupt some how. I did try searching my computer for that .dll file and the search came up empty, except for the one included with the FTP software.

Awesome fix, works great, thanks! I didn't try to play using it though, just used it to log on, withdraw my balance to my ewallet and log off, seeya FTP, I'll be back when your software and support don't suck so bad!

FTP support just told me that there were no more problems and I was on big tilt over not being able to log on, glad I found this thread. So ridiculous that 2plus2 is solving problems before multimillion dollar companies.

That is real interesting. I searched my customer test system which I just happen to have FTP installed and found the dll in C:\Program Files\Full Tilt Poker\plugins\phonon_backend. However, I have no issue connecting to FTP with this system ( Window xp with all the latest patches).
