In short, it adds a layer of security to your account. If someone wants to hack you, before they'd just need your username/email and your password. If you use the same password you use on partypoker with multiple websites, if one of them has a breach, anyone who got access to those passwords could get into your partypoker account.
With 2FA, the hackers would need something that you'd physically have in your possession such as a token, phone (app/SMS) etc.

partypoker offers 2FA via text message so each time you login, you'd get a code to your phone via SMS which would be required before the login is accepted
you can protect your emails and other accounts with 2FA as well. each service decides themselves what kind of 2FA option they offer.
