PokerStars withdrawing services from Slovenia [July 2016] PokerStars withdrawing services from Slovenia [July 2016]

07-01-2016 , 05:27 AM
Hi Players,

On Monday 4 July, PokerStars and Full Tilt will be withdrawing services to players from Slovenia. The key points are that those players are able to withdraw their balances at their convenience, and that we have no further plans to withdraw services from any other regions in the foreseeable future.

An official statement from PokerStars is reproduced below.

Sincerely,

Michael Josem
PokerStars Public Relations Team

Player balances remain safe and secure, and players are able to withdraw their real money balances at their convenience. We do not currently expect to withdraw services from any other locations in the foreseeable future, and a full question and answer page has been provided for affected players.

We hope that we will be able to return to the market in due course, and will continue to support the implementation of fair and consistent regulation that serves the needs of all stakeholders and includes a strong commitment to consumer protection, particularly of vulnerable people, in Slovenia. There is already a successful framework for such regulation in Europe and PokerStars is currently licensed in 12 EU countries. We hope to apply for a license in Slovenia when it is possible.

What's the reason that you announced it only 3 days before?

This is a backstabbing move from PokerStars. We are not given any explanation as of why this is happening nor have we been given any heads up (3 days WTF). If this is the way PokerStars is treating its customers I am happy not to be one of them any longer.

We only made the decision just recently.

Does this have something to do with not being licensed to offer any kind of gambling in Slovenia?

I know there are laws that restrict this but there are 100's of other providers of poker, sports betting and gambling offering their services in Slovenia.

I'm a bit concerned this might be the start of an avalanche and that other providers will follow.

Are there any realistic (note the realistic part) of applying for a permit? As far as I know how this go in Slovenian gambling I highly doubt you'll be granted one but still...

I live on the Slovenian - Croatian border, can I play on the site if I have Slovenia citizenship and a temporary address in Croatia? Can I log in from a Slovenia IP?

So in other words your first point here is fairly meaningless.

But you could make a decision that would give more time to players, right? What difference is about fact that you made this decision recently or 2 months ago? Or is something so urgent going on, that you are under time pressure here?

Very unprofessional of you to let us know about this only 3 days before, though I can't say I'm surprised given how you ran things lately...

To play on PokerStars, you will need two things:

a) A registered address outside Slovenia;

AND

b) To be physically located outside Slovenia.

Since your question mostly relates to (b) above, let me explain a little further -As far as this rule goes, we are not concerned with "Slovenian IP addresses" - rather, we are concerned with where a player is physically located.

As part of that judgment about where a player is located, we use a player's IP address (amongst other things) to make a best judgment as to where a player is physically located. If you think that our automated tools are blocking you incorrectly (ie, you are physically located outside Slovenia, but are incorrectly blocked) then please email us and let us know.

Obviously, if you are physically located in Slovenia, and try use a tool to try to deceive us into thinking you are outside Slovenia, then that's a clear breach of our rules and we'll take appropriate steps to enforce our Terms of Service.

WHY? It's no fun to be segregated
It would certainly a boost for poker world if Spain, Italy and France become open market

Thanks for the answers.

I'm not planning on forging my location, if that's even possible.

I just wanted to know if an address in a different country is enough.

How about a poker office in Croatia?

Let's say I rent a house/room/flat in a neighboring country. I can proof beyond the doubt the place is located in Croatia but I will still only have a Slovenian ID. Kind of like going to work in another country. Is this acceptable?
