No they somehow broke it with the latest Windows client update so they just shut it off to Windows users. But it's ok Mac users can still play and win the money you have already invested. I am sure you will find this a perfectly fair and reasonable way to manage a progressive jackpot.

Just to be clear - it was not our update that caused this issue. Microsoft's update from March 14 is what is causing this issue, and the issue is not exclusive to our client; eg:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...2-c95b4f40d978

The error messaging and logs that are appearing to the users of this application are the same as the error messages we are seeing in our logs submitted by players. There is nothing we can roll back or fix to resolve this.

The decision to stop the game entirely or not is a difficult one; there's no question that de-surfacing the game (which had to be done) for a specific platform may cause some players who have contributed to the progressive to mistakenly but understandably believe the option to play no longer exists.

On the one hand, a very large percentage of our users are playing on mobile or tablets which are not affected or have access to one if they wish to play The Deal. As well, turning it off could also be seen as unfair to those people who had played in the preceding 12 hour period, where some of their EV came from hoping to get a share of the jackpot, which cannot happen if the game is turned off entirely.

After due consideration, the decision was made to leave the game on; I understand it's not a perfect solution, but I don't believe there is one.

Fair enough. Now its available on android platform too (earlier I checked deal wasn't available on android or may be I missed it). Would have been unfair if it was only available for apple users

Microsoft has now released the patch that should resolve this:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...date-kb4015438

The Deal is now back on again for Windows users.

Wow, just after someone hit the jackpot... I think its extremly unfair for users like me who dont have an iOs, Android or Linux device. Coz of that I just missed my share of the jackpot of $13,80

yeah I logged in via iphone twice a day just to make a spin figuring if the jackpot gets hit you make quite a nice return for 7 coins.

Attempting to play the deal is still crashing my stars client today and I have updated Stars. Was the deal hit while it was offline? When and for how much? I thought I remembered it being around 175k and when it came back it was at the minimum

"the deal" is just a way to rake the rakeback imo

Have couple of suggestions regarding "The Deal"

1) Imo, the deal should be available to only those who have played a game in the last 12/24 hrs otherwise some players with no bankroll but with stars coin balance might log in every 12 hrs just to play the deal and make some free money without playing a single game.

2) There should be a jackpot freeroll every week or every month. Like for example everytime a jackpot is hit 20% of the jackpot prizepool money should be added to this freeroll. As of now 50% of the jackpot money goes to the winner and rest 50% goes to the players who played the deal in the last 24 hrs. How about make it 40% to the winner of the jackpot, and 40% to the players who played it, that would give you 20% which you can add that money to a freeroll. Than we can have a freeroll of $40k-50k every month which would be really great. And to play that freeroll, you must complete a challenge or something like that.

I just installed Pokerstars on a Linux PC (Mint 18.1 64bit cinnamon). I run it with Wine 2.10. Amost everything works fine. But when i click on "The Deal" Pokerstars instantly crashs.

Someone managed to run "The Deal" with Linux or has an idea how to fix it?

It is unlikely* for the jackpot to exceed $150,000, so under no realistic jackpot conditions is “The Deal” favorable to the player. In fact, the jackpot needs to grow over $272,000 for the EV to be positive. (*Update: the jackpot as of 12:30 GMT Friday, January 27 is now over $470,000. Given that there now have been roughly 21.8 million losing entries, if the odds of the hitting the jackpot are truly 1 in 5,197,920, meaning that the jackpot wheel is fair, neither predetermined or unevenly weighted, we should have expected the jackpot to be hit 4 times by now. I said it was “rare” for the jackpot to exceed the break-even point, but it is likely that my assumption of the probabilities of the jackpot wheel are incorrect, despite the wheel graphic showing a supposed one-eighth likelihood per section. See Does PokerStars manually control when the jackpot is won?)

If you play once exactly every 12 hours for the minimum, then you may end up with a better return only because you may get a share of 50% of the jackpot that is evenly divided among all non-winners of “The Deal” in the past 12 hours when a jackpot is won. Anecdotally, this amounts to about $1 every three days or so (thus, $1 every 42 StarsCoin, which puts the expectation now in favour of the player, at the expense of all other players that play more than 7 StarsCoin per 12 hours).

It is evident that this strategy heavily relies on fewer unique players putting in a lot of their StarsCoin into the progressive jackpot. If everyone were to follow this strategy of maximum 7 StarsCoin per 12 hours, “The Deal” is a huge losing proposition for all players, and a very well-obfuscated one that greatly increases PokerStars’ profit.

No, the players with star coins have already fullfilled a playing requirement, otherwise they would not have any star coins. There is no harm in allowing players with no money oin their accounts to play the deal. What will they do if they win? Runaway with $2?

The problem with freerolls is that the prizepool gets unevenly distributed in favor of skilled players. If a player only plays casino games, is it fair to remove 20% of his contribution to the prizepool?

Pretty sure something's off in the article above as the Deal is a zero-sum game. So if everyone would play it perfectly, everyone would get 0.07$ per 7 SC invested (in the albeit very long run)
