Question for Mac users,

I've used PC's all my life and my latest machine has been giving me nothing but problems and the only reason I've continued with it is because surprisingly I experience ZERO lag while 4 tabling Bovada and having multiple windows open in background. It's only used for poker, but is a few years old and I'm constantly having to replace parts on it.

I'm thinking about switching to a MacBook, but know very little about them. I'm looking to use it for Poker only and something that is reliable (little to no lag, if that's even possible w/Boavada now) while 4 tabling Bovada plus HUD, PokerTracker, Skype, and screen recording software.

Any recommendations (processor, RAM, storage, etc) on what you guys think would work best with Bovada in its current state would be great. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'd get another PC. I love macs but your odds of having less problems is probably higher with a Windows machine, because Bovada's mac software is that ****ty.

Edit: Written after having Bovada lock up on my Mac while I had two big hands, and while I'm waiting to be allowed to rejoin my tables because I had the termity to restart Bovada.

yeah get a pc. i bought a pc just to play bovada because i had exhausted myself with all other options. i probably spent 30 hours on the phone with them over a 4 month period before the manager (one level above leader aka supervisor - the one you talk to when the representative who answers your phone is incompetent) hung up on me after telling me that she didn't care if i played or not and that i would never receive another refund for "disconnects" (aka crashing) and that all future play was at my own risk. mind you, this was also after someone from the philippines called me at like 10 pm from their technical team and troubleshooted everything only to say the issue was certainly on my end with my internet. lolz

Their Mac software really is terrible. Besides the regular crashes, I often have to reboot my Mac to get Bovada to run again. I can't remember the last time I've had to reboot my Mac because of an app crash, that's some pretty skilled crashing.

Plus they screw up so many little things. I login on my laptop it always launches it's dumb referral page into Safari so I have to navigate back just to play. No, Bovada, making my experience worse doesn't motivate me to refer people to you.

Their designer decided it would be cool to have all black background, so you can't even tell where the title bar ends and the window body begins. Which means you frequently try to drag a window to a new location and airball. They actually put controls in the title bar so sometimes you try to drag a window and it opens an email to support.

The hand replayer is inexplicably dimmed and darkened, making it hard to read, esp. when I'm using it while multi tabling.

I can't filter the table list to show only active tables, I can't filter to a specific table stakes (i.e. 3-6), so I end up with a big list of tables from a range of stakes, some active, some not, and even though I sort by number of players it's easy to miss when a new table I'd be interested in is open.

I'd like to review my sessions after I play, but can't find hand histories on my hard drive. I have to go into the crashy app and use their tedious hand history view, which always appear to be missing my latest sessions and are impossible to navigate easily to the hands I want to see.

Its as if the marketing and design team said, our number one goal is to make it harder for customers to play more tables and pay us more rake.

So I installed Windows on my Macbook and Bovada runs much better, hasn't crashed yet. Still does stupid stuff. Occasionally it will lose my internet connection for 5 seconds, insta remove me from my tables, then refuse to let me sit back in my previous seats because of it's stupid 5 minute rule.

Just started playing Bovada last week. I use a 1 year old MBPr and the client pinwheel's multiple times a session. What tilts me the most is that after I force quit on the client and relaunch, I can't rejoin my cash-game tables.

Hello,

Recently (a few months ago) Bovada updated their software. I used to have the Sound files overwritten (because I hate their annoying alerts.

the sound files are located in
Contents/MacOS/resources/sounds/

I still have them overwritten (and locked) so that Bovada doesn't overwrite the files when it launches. But now, I'm getting the old (beep) sound for the alerts.

Any idea how to overwrite the sound? I know some people were able to use different tables/backgrounds/etc. but overwriting the image files.

Thanks,
hilss

This happens to me as well which is really annoying. Disconnects than stands me up from a great game. Any solutions to this?

yeah, i got disconnected 5 times this week. all in the blinds and at least 3 of them while i had the nut lo and 1 in holdem where i would've had the nuts vs trips and tptk. next hand, i'm supposed to have btn, but no, i'm removed from table and not allowed to join. it's just ****ing insane. i payed for the ****ing round, why have i been removed. why can't i have my 3 orbits? or at least the 1 i payed for???!!!
it really hurts getting kicked off on btn or sb in o8 30/60's cuz those are all 9handed. of course support doesn't understand why i'm so angry. they're just like, "well can you rejoin now?"

If you use iHoldem Indicator it currently doesn't work on Ignition. I would wait for a fix/update before switching.

If you do a fresh install of iHoldemIndicator it will work on Ignition

I'm trying to figure out why the "ssl handshake fails" while I'm installing ignition.

I do think it has something to do with running the installer as admin, although I'm new to Mac and can't figure out how to do this...

Does anyone have the issue solved for the ssl handshake error

THE FIX FOR THIS IS update OS X in app store to el capitan.

Now i just get the issue of lobby not responding and the having to force quit. The only way to force quit is cmnd+option+esc

I have tried giving a chance for ignition on a mac and it has been a failure. It constantly freezes at the lobby. When I pull up a tourney info, freeze. When I open a game and play, it times out and I have to close the entire thing down and put it back up to barely get around an orbit before it does it again. I really want it to work.

I have all the issues you are having but not as severe once i get the game going it will run a good while most times. I notice if Im2or 3tabling when I get busted out or finish a tourney it usually freezes up and sometimes at random I have had bouts where it would freeze up several times close together also but no where near every session. I too wish they would fix their problems could be such a perfect poker site if they would

I played a great deal of tourneys yesterday on my mac and it actually just worked fine with no issues. I believe that if you have a sucky internet connection then the client can get wonky. I have 100 Mps at home whereas when I have issues is when I am at a wifi at a coffee shop it is when I have problems. I will keep an eye on this. It very well be that the client Mac versions don't handle disconnects very well.

Not sure if this has already been addressed.

I see no option for auto rebuy in cash games. So when I have to reload I sometimes get the spinning wheel of death and that table ceases to work.

Any fixes or should I just stop losing and having to rebuy?

Yes, i seem to have issues with switching from lobby to the table and back and seems to freeze and so I have to shut down the client and get back in. If I don't mess with it, the client seems to work alright. It did this on El Capitan so I don't think it has anything to do with MacOS but more the Ignition client.
