It's not a grey area at all, it's completely legal. Explain why you would think it would be a grey area.

Also, an employer does not have a right to know of other revenue streams. That's one of the most ridiculous things I have heard.

I would deposit it without worry, but if you're uneasy about it at all, then open another bank account.

Sorry, the law for businesses (Bovada) is a grey area, and this is especially apparent when observing their "interesting" payment processing avenues. Notice the locations and names on the checks (my last one was from Canada with a name something like 'Food Company U.S.A').The business is the one holding our money and providing the checks, so that is a risk we all take.

An employer may not legally have the right to know of other revenue streams, but they might be curious. They could not legally justify firing an employee over this, but as an employee I would rather not raise any sort of suspicion/curiosity.

It's not legal you ****ing idiot. Where is the proof that online gambling on bovada, acr, betonline, carbon, is legal? If it's 100% legal in the US then I can file a lawsuit against bovada for closing my account.

As I understand it, it is not illegal to play online poker in the US.

It is against the law, however for banks to process payments that came about from playing online poker, so the person working at the bank is asking his employer to break the law, which I don't suggest he do. Best case is they don't ask and he doesn't tell but you can imagine a lot of bad things can happen to the employee, let alone the bank.

It is also illegal to not report your gambling income to the IRS.

CIH 9/6/13... I got no warning that it was coming. No text email nothing, but heard a knock at the door about 10 mins before this post looked out the window saw a fed ex truck and ran downstairs as I knew I had to sign for it after reading other posts itt. As the fed ex lady was walking away she turns around as I opened the door and said she was happy I was home so I could sign. Snap knew it was a check.

Ultra impressed with how fast this went, check is from up north, and I got $.30 more than I requested. Ballin.

Also it seems like the best way to deposit these is to do it at the ATM just to be safe? I have business at my bank today anyway but I guess I could stop at the ATM first, if it isn't to big of a deal was just going to go in a deposit it with a cashier. All the cashiers know me, not personally but I've been with this bank for a long time, and I have deposited checks from FTP back in the day and had no issue, fwiw.

first time depositing a weird check from the east.

is the standard advice to never do it through teller and do it through atm? check looks strange to me so worried if i do it through atm im just going to get bs later.

also appreciate any advice here or pms which banks work best for checks (ive always done wu in the past but will be doing checks here on out). i got a bank that rhymes with ACE. good to go? don't mind opening whatever banks you all recommend have been working out.

Ch4se app deposits checks from the east fine if you have a smart phone.

Assume it would work easy with an ATM then too. Just sign on the back where you normally would.

ok so i received a check from up north today, first time cashing out of bovada, very happy with the speed of delivery...

however, i deposited it at my credit union and they had to get a manager because the teller wasnt familiar with the different routing numbers. manager says they have to hand mail the check to another facility that can handle international transactions and my account wont be credited until the funds clear, they inform me that this could take up to 2 weeks and ask if i am ok with that. i tell them yes and that is that...i walk out thinking this seems a bit odd but if it works then whatever....

what i'm wondering is if there is any chance that this process will take too long and the check will bounce do to a change in processors?

is this type of thing normal for smaller credit unions?

I bank at a small credit union and this happens to me all the time. It's pretty f annoying but you'll get your money eventually.

Last time it happened, though, the check ended up bouncing. But it was from another site, not Bovada.

thanks for letting me know!

lol, for me the annoying part was making up the story of who was paying me and then having the guy tell me "maybe you should have them pay you via paypal or some ewallet next time, it would save you and I both the hassle."

LOL

I have cashed multiple "Bovada" checks with this bank and never had any problem whatsoever in the past. I don't know why this check was "flagged".
It was one of the smallest I have ever cashed. I've cashed checks from the east and from up north before. This particular check was from the north.

I will post results when I hear something.

Update: Got a "foreign item credit" today when I checked my online banking statement.

The credit was $10 short though. I guess the bank takes a fee now too.
No big deal. Just updating the process for others who might have the same experience forthcoming.

A little disappointed with Bovada at the moment.

Requested a $200 Rapid Transfer payout on Monday Sept 2nd, it was approved a day later and still no word on my sender's information.

I've never had a problem with this method of payout and it has always been (pardon the pun) rapid. Calls to the customer care line were fruitless. Should I PM a rep here or wait a response guys? Paying a 10 percent vig on something that is taking about the same time as a free monthly check is unacceptable. Thanks guys!

There isn't a rep that handles that type of stuff.
Then why do it?

I wasn't aware that there was not one.

Time convenience and CIH within a business day. Free checks are once a month.

As suspected, it turns out it was an error on their end. A step was missed/skipped after the approval process and my payout was in limbo. Upon speaking to a rep and his supervisor, I was offered a cash credit and priority payout with the sender's information available immediately. Just waiting on the control number now. Bovada came through on this one.
