Bitcoin for online poker? Bitcoin for online poker?

Hey guys,

I thought this might be the right time to ask.
After bitcoin being healthier and more used again in the recent past I asked myself if people know trustworthy pokersites with crypto as their only available currency.

I have not found anything really that looks trustworthy but thougth there have to be some places that must have decent traffic, since offering those games in a trustworthy environment should print money, or am I mistaken?
If yes, why is that so?

Thanks for helping me out!

Personally, I chose 2 best sites with only poker and crypto payments.
Here they are:
1. Cryptopokerclub
2. SWC Poker
Other sites have very small number of players or doing something with cash so I choose these.

First time crypto buyer.

I set up a coinbase account and went to initiate an ACH transfer. At the checkout it says my funds with be available in 18 days to transfer off of coinbase. EIGHTEEN? Everywhere I read said 3-5 business days so if I am missing something please lmk.

(also am doing under $5k so afaik a bank wire is not an option).

From what I understand about real money online poker is that the best deposit and withdrawal methods is using bitcoin. Now I’ve looked at the tutorials on buying pitcoin using online wallets funding your poker account and doing everything in reverse to make withdrawals and fund your checking account. My main question though is it legal to receive funds from bitcoin websites? I understand using the use of an online wallet to be a “middle man” so as for your checking account to look as though it is receiving money from the bitcoin site and not from the poker site. Also is the IRS ok with people receiving extra income through “online gambling” via cryptocurrency. Assuming one does well and is able to make withdrawals every couple months, will one get into any trouble with the law because of the weird legality of online poker. Also I understand that pokerstars.com is the only fully legal poker site in the state of New Jersey and I believe Washington has a full ban on online gambling. What about these other states it’s ok for them to go this bitcoin route and make extra cash this way. I just don’t see how this could be legal. I would like to play real money online poker recreationally and hopefully earn extra money next to my regular incomes but not if I can get in trouble with the government or irs and mess up my checking account or pay fines. Has any of you had success rwcieving money from poker sites on a regular basic and fund your checking acct via the bitcoin route with no trouble from the irs/government and no trouble during tax season. If you were successful what steps did you take for it to be ok and legal? Thanks for your answers

Is funding your checking account from bitcoin sites legal? I understand to use an online wallet that acts as a middle man between your deposits and withdraw so it looks like the funds come from the bitcoin site and not directly from the poker site. I just wanna know is all this legal this whole bitcoin thing like receiving extra money from bitcoin sites isn’t the government gonna be like hey where are you getting this extra random money from because during tax season you have to do your w2 and put all your incomes down and how much you make I don’t feel like the government or irs or whatever is gonna be ok with you receiving money from these poker sites via the bitcoin route. I know that pokerstars.com is only fully legal in NJ and Washington has a ban on it. So are the rest of the states just doing the bitcoin thing for funding/withdrawals has any one had any success doing the bitcoin thing without getting into any trouble during tax season or paying fines or jail time. Thanks for your help

No matter how it’s funded playing online poker in most states is not illegal. Maintaining a site for players to play on is not illegal in most states either.

The lawbreakers would be banks making transactions directly to poker sites. That’s why you shouldn’t fund directly to or from managed online wallets that could be potentially breaking the law (ie Coinbase). If there is something between them and the casino they are not knowingly breaking the law.

Every gambler is responsible for paying taxes on earnings from gambling. I don’t know how enforcement works. I’m sure you’d have to be on someone’s radar to be caught but that’s the jist of it.

Sites like ACR or SWC aren’t operating illegally. The players on the site aren’t breaking the law either (unless they live in MD or WA I believe). The only difference between ACR and PSNJ is one is regulated and one isn’t.

Electrum for wallet and coinbase to turn usd into bitcoin. Use your wallet to move bitcoin between coinbase and gaming providers. I think there is a sticky. It's all legal if you pay taxes for USA anyway

What is your relationship with this site? Very likely this is a scam site.

This also looks like a staged photo and that you are shilling for the site. All the 8 way juicy action lol. This could easily be a bad read though and the action was presented to you that way so they could hook you in, like they did me.

simmer down dude, you quoted a post of mine from OVER a year ago... I am no shill, and if you would read through the rest of this thread, you'd see I've moreorless retracted this statement.

As far as the picture, I got it from one of the first tweets they put out. I thought the software looks cool, I wasn't trying to mislead anyone on the traffic.

Sorry you got screwed.by them, but FWIW I too have been banned for calling them out on BitcoinTalk and their Telegram chat

tech solution looking for a problem.

Does anyone (other than rigtards in the rigtard thread) believe any of the major sites have a RNG problem with the shuffle?

no, I do not think bitcoin is a good way to hold your money, I advice you to not play on any btc sites, so my opinion on your actual question I hope seem objective and hopefully helpful; There is no particular reason for an unregulated crypto based site to rig it's rng other than if it's bleeding money through operations and it's owners make accounts to win to cover the bleeding (and more). The 3 biggest issues you should ask yourself imo is;
1) Is this site viable, is it making a profit? you better hope they are or there's gonne be a day they either disappear or tell everyone sorry guys we can't cover.
2) does anyone know anything about the owner? employees? will the owner get ****ed if he decides too just take all the deposits?
3) does the site have a breaking point wrt btc price? what does it do with the deposits? if btc drops to $4k and 6 months pass by, do they still have the btc to cover all deposits? their income is in bitcoin, their expenses are in $/€/fiat.

Even if I were bullish on btc I wouldn't play on a btc site unless they had a way of publicizing their company balances with basically daily updates

Hi! I stumbled upon this answer that a lot of people use bitcoin to play now. But I play online casino and I have never even heard about anyone in my area who played with bitcoin. Is it true? Okay, I get it, maybe I live in a weird area, haha, but anyways, is there any statistics on that ? Do many people play with bitcoin? I am just wondering if I should try or no, maybe the info would get me started, I dont know..Anyways, let me know if you know and if you want, you can share your opinion too.

(Slightly off topic, but good to see advertising of Bitcoin.)

"Watford lead way in joining the crypto-express hoping to entice fans.

"Last month, Watford [UK football team] took an unusual decision. Not the one to sack Javi Gracia four matches into the season; that was kind of standard. Rather it had something to do with the sleeves on the kit that, the club announced, would be sporting the logo of Bitcoin. Hoping to “educate the public on the benefits of using cryptocurrencies”, the sponsorship would form part of a “wider campaign to improve awareness”. ..."

While you might be right that it's somewhat unnecessary, I think that your attitude is off. It's like applying an organic sticker to food. Very little is bad as a result. I mean, all else equal, if a game were mathematically provably fair vs not, which would you choose?

Technically speaking, there are solutions as well to getting super used in this same capacity which is a thing that has happened, which at least partially debunks your claims.

But all in all, what matters most is a high quality platform, good customer support, a large player base etc. So I think the argument is best suited towards those elements, which these types of platforms will assuredly fall short on.

This is my first post on this site. Been a big fan of poker forever practically but just now trying to get into the online scene. It seems like most of the bigger online venues want me to deposit bch to get started though. All of the sites I'm seeing to purchase any look pretty sketchy. Any recommendations on where to safely buy bch?

Hi, long time away from this forum and thinking about coming back to online poker. Grinded online til Black Friday of 2011 and have been playing live the last 3-4 years on the side.

Couple of quick questions regarding bitcoin...I've read all I could here and at other places but still unsure about a couple of things

1) Can I use a hardware wallet like Trezor or Ledger Nano to deposit fund (i.e transfer bitcoins onto poker sites) or do I have to use web based site like Blockchain

2) Is Coinbase still the best exchange to use to buy bitcoins? Or are there others out there that are better or cheaper or easier or brings less attentions?

Thanks

I think ignition should offer a service for fast withdrawal via bitcoin. I'd be fine if they charged extra for it, but it would be nice to be able to lock in a BTC conversion rate as opposed to having to wait another 48 hours or so. Withdrawal and deposit via BTC has basically turned a lot of online poker players into currency speculators.

That's really good - with ignition you never really know. It could be up to 72 hours. I feel like this topic about how bitcoin has turned poker players into currency speculators is never really talked about. It could be the difference between whether you end up positive or negative.

Your funds aren't exposed to price swings during that 72 hours. The only time your funds are exposed to price swings is after they process it and send it to you. If you have everything set up properly ahead of time you should only have to be exposed to price fluctuations for a few minutes. It's rare to see big price swings happen in that short of window. Not only that, but it can go the other way where you end up with more than you expected as well.
